xsr900 issue - 1st world problems
Hi BARF knowledge center
I have semi trivial issue on my 2016 xsr900 which is same motor / platform as fz / fj / mt 900. bike is long since out of warranty, and has around 40k miles gear position indicator on dashboard shows the numerals 1 thru 6 as visible when the bike is cold when the motor gets up to temperature, the gear position numbers 2 and 4 become intermittent, then fail to light up. numerals 1-_-3-_-5 & 6 seem to be ok when hot. I am assuming the sending switch gets hot then has an internal discontinuity. I cant seem to find a part number for the switch on the shift drum that is sending the info to the dash. I searched thru bike bandit parts fiches, as well as any posts on model specific moto b.boards, such as FZ09.org anyone else on similar model bike have this issue? any help getting the part number for the switch? thanks in advance

I bet it's the neutral switch reporting all the gears. Look at all those contacts! Maybe they have some corrosion to clean. 1RC-82540-00-00

This is a well known issue with the CP3 engine.
The sensor is located on the top of the crankcase, just aft of the cylinders. Supposedly, you can clean it but generally if it fails, it needs to be replaced. Neutral switch assy #10 https://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/...4/electrical-2 My FZ09 does the same thing in 6th and sometimes in 5th gear. I have not replaced it yet.

fyi y'all, the switch in question is located just above the front sprocket , the plug connections are under the tank where tiny racoon fingers would be more useful than my fat sausage fingers in attempting to unplug and reattach the new switch's connections
in the pic I am pointing at the switch with my allen wrench wierd how iphones rotate pics, part is actually directly above the sprocket

Success, although just on the stand, all gear numbers light up.
I still need to take it out and run it enough to get up to temp, and see if the issue is truly fixed. Monday, most likely. --S

Glad this worked for you OP. But. In future, and this is for everybody, especially with sensors, it's a really good idea to at least do some basic electrical checks before shooting the parts cannon at any kind of motorized vehicle.
If for no other reason, at least to verify that what the interwebs gurus said is the problem, actually IS the problem and that there isn't any other contributing factors like green crusties (corrosion) that can possibly just be cleaned with contact cleaner and a mini file or terminal cleaner set. Might save you some money and time. YMMV. ![]() ![]() Edit: Or you could just run it up to temp (cooling fan cycles on , then off) in your driveway? ![]()

in my case, parted worked ok at start up -cold, but had failure at hot, operating temperatures. leading me to believe part went bad with heat related non- continuity
we will see if I am correct following a test run later today
