YMMV
My experience has been different.
Mine quickly transformed in to a smooth glossy finish and smelled like feet.

But anyhoo, I've ordered the Grip Puppies from the UK (expensive though they are), and might pick up an extra pair in San Jose. They do wear out after 25-30K miles in my experience.

Not sure where you see them for $40.

That listing wasn't there yesterday! Instead I paid $20 for the grips and an additional $17 for shipping (from the UK) and tax.

Probably something on your gloves.

Just search for X-Tube Heat Shrink Wrap. I chose 40mm for my grips and it was an easy fix for mine when they started to deteriorate.
Now that's something worth trying!

Don't eat cheeseburgers while riding.
That would take more skilz than I have, and I'm gonna blame a shitty product that surprisingly has been around forever (late 70's) before any cheeseburgers!

Huh, that's the same link/seller I bought from almost exactly a year ago. I do like them on the FZ6 but I just ordered some of that X-Tube for the Versys to give that a try.

That looks like great stuff. Gotta try it.

I've used grip puppies & Beamer Buddies (similar to grip puppies but with velcro), and I've been using tennis racket overwrap for the last few years.

Next time it wears out though might try that stuff. How is it for transferring grip heat? Of the 3 I've tried, I only found the grip puppies to be a problem.

Works great. Transfers heat just fine. Took 5 minutes and a heat gun to install and I have enough left to replace it 3-4 more times from one order.

Does it shrink longitudinally as well as circumference? Just wondering if I should cut to exact length or longer.

Mostly just the circumference. I just eyeballed mine to about the length of the grip and it shrunk a tiny bit longitudinally, which was perfect.

X-Tube Install

I received the X-tube today and it's already installed. My first impression or expectation was that it would have more grip, tackier or have some grittiness to it but it's better than what's there. I have Koso Apollo heated grips. I doubled up under the throttle lock but may remove it as the edge sits right under my thumb. Even after shrinking it remains rubbery and stretchy. It shrunk just an 1/8" longitudinally. If you look at the 2nd pic the material extends to the end of the grip but in the 3rd pic it shrunk down to just inside the lip and used a heat gun to make quick work of it.
