Cripple rules question

Per the email update that went out:
450 SUPERSTOCK
Inline four 600/636 motorcycles with a cylinder disabled to meet the cc displacement are not allowed

So a triple is *only* allowed in 450 Superbike, no longer superstock under 6.1.3? F4 legal or nah?

Ninja 400's, since the 400 Superstock went away or was changed to 450 Superstock and supposedly to allow the rumored Yamaha R4/420cc bike that may be coming to compete against the Ninja 400.

But why allow cripples in SB and not SS?

If manufacturers are going to keep bumping up displacement on the LW bikes, then maybe MW cripples should be its own class.

It was. My understanding is 450 class was made for cripples. Then they changed 250 class to 350 for all the 300’s. Now there were 400’s so made a 400 class. Then over last few seasons Attendance dropped in 450 cripple and they were trying to limit the amount of classes with small grids. So they started combining or eliminating classes. Since a cripple is technically modified at engine they decided it wasn’t superstock legal now when that class is supposed to have no engine modifications and be very close to how it was manufactured as stock showroom bike.

It’s impossible to make everyone happy. It’s also hard to keep up with manufacturers. Kawi started with 250’s and that became a popular class. Then they made a 300, now a 400. People are still racing all those displacements yet they don’t compete well together. Certain bukes may run similar lap times but sometimes the speed difference going into and exiting corners is very different and if you mix two many different displacements into the same class it can get a little hectic. No matter what I’m glad we all have a place to race, it’s just a bummer there’s so many people upset.....

Unless there were other rule changes, the cripples should still be eligible for: 450 SBK, LWT SBK, and F4. It would also be eligible for F40 LWT.

We removed Cripples from the 450SS class because they aren't legal for SS classes with the engine mods. Additionally, consolidating the 400 classes into a 450 class (and AFM mainstay class) meant we needed a home class for the bikes that were not special carve outs, such as the Cripple is in SS. The bike still has the same amount of classes it's competitive in (3). It also fits into Legacy MW and 600 classes, if someone wants to run those.

If they keep bumping displacement, eventually they'll get to, I dunno, about 600?

They’ve discovered the hole in the market! Twin cylinder bikes with approximately 600cc engines and subpar suspension and brakes. Hmmmmm..

This is my understanding as well. The currently posted Rulebook (2019) + the email from 3/6 say nothing about making 450s ineligible for their lightweight classes. I just registered for:
- Clubman Light
- 450 SBK
- LWT SB
- F4

They are also allowing 450s into Legacy middleweight, with no year restriction. IMO it seems like an odd fit so I passed on registering for that race.

Per the newly published rulebook, page 32, FO-1.8 e: A disabled cylinder motorcycle may run in 450 SuperStock, 450 Superbike, Formula AFemme, Formula IV, Formula 40 Light, and Legacy Light classes...

I will assume the Superstock restriction stands and someone forgot to edit it out, but that should be fixed. Berto can you clarify if it's legal in Legacy MW or LW?

While it does seem confusing there really isn’t a “Formula” 450 class. That rule you listed falls under formula rules. If you look at Superstock rules, page 15, CL-1.2, in the 351-450cc it says disabled 600’s are not allowed

So I can disable two cylinders on an old CBR 900 and use it?
It still looks like a missed edit to me and that class should just be stricken from that sentence.

Looks like it's also legal in LW and can "run up" into MW although against native 600s that doesn't seem to be a competitive choice.
