SF->Wyoming->Colorado->New Mexico->SF, Aug 15th - Sept. 5
This is the trip I originally intended to do last month but was unable because of this ridiculous "work" habit I've developed. However, I just got confirmation from the boss man that this time slot will work.
I have family near Laramie WY, Ft. Collins CO, and Santa Fe NM, so those are the spots I'm going to hit. The trip will prolly be pretty direct between each of these places & I'll do recreational riding whie using my famiy's places as home bases. My brother in CO rides, too, so he'll be able to accompany me whie I'm there. I'm pretty excited, although I'm a little concerned about how the jetted/open pipe bike is going to perform at 8500 - 12000 feet. More specifics as I plan the ride. Folks are welcome to join in. |

PM Nitewaif, if she's still in Albuquerque she'd probably enjoy a ride up into the Sandias, the Jemez, or up north to CO...

Turns out Lightwaif is in Oregon or some shit now. Anyway, I've developed a plan for the outbound journey. In designing this route, I'm hoping to avoid both slabs and heavy tourist traffic, but still not get stranded between gas stations. Suggestions for refining this route from experienced travelers are welcome.
day 1: SF -> Ely, NV area. I-80 -> CA 4 -> CA 89 nr. Markleeville -> S on US 395 -> E on CA 120 -> E on US 6 to Ely, NV. Camp at either Cave Lake State Park or Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park. day 2: Ely, NV area -> Vernal, UT area. E on US 6 -> E on UT 125 nr. Delta -> E on UT 132 nr. Leamington -> N on US 89 -> E on US 6 -> N on US 191 nr. Helper -> E on US 40 near Duchesne -> Vernal, UT. Camp at either Steinaker State Park or Red Fleet State Park. day 3: Vernal, UT -> Centennial, Wyoming. E on US 40 -> N on CO 13 nr. Craig -> E on WY 70 over the Continental Divide -> N on WY 230 nr. Encampment -> E on WY 130 to Centennial, WY. End of outbound trip. Time for BBQ! ![]() Last edited by rumpofsteelskin; 08-02-2005 at 07:17 AM.. |
