There were quite few little diversions from teh main road. Apparently they are part of the original Alaska Highway.

Wooden Bridge.

Scenery (Muncho Lake I think) between Fort Nelson and Lower Post. I had almost crashed before taking this pic, I lost the front tire to gravel in a corner, and it slide quite a bit, but somehow I kept it up.

I camped at Moose Lake, aptly name due to the giant moose feeding in the water just off my campsite. He got into it with another moose later in the night with them hollering across the lake at each other.

One of the many black bears that I saw. They were thick on the ground.

Whitehorse. My rear tire was toast and nobody would help me.

I found Whitehorse to be a combination of Oakland and Richmond but with a lot of gangster wannabes.

I was surprised because most folks raved about Whitehorse.

I decided to press on to Tok, despite it being close to midnight. The nights only last a very short time during the summer, so it was still light.

I was just past the border station and passed Steve Creek gas station when I saw a flash of black to my right. I felt an impact on my leg and then on my side case. I almost lost it but rode it out.

I hit a fucking black bear. He was laying awkwardly, like his neck was broken. The Gas station owner came out to see wtf was going on.

I told him we should move it out of the road. He looked at me like I was crazy.

While we talked the bear got up, shook the cobwebs out and ran into the forest. I then realized I didn't get a goddamn picture.

Well here is the aftermath on the case.

I spent a forgettable day in Fairbanks and got a new tire. The Alaskan Fun Center folks helped a brother out.

Headed up the Steese and Elliot Highways. You can see the pipeline now.
