I was wondering about the feet, too. Kinda gives me the impression that he's floating or ascending...
Once the background is fleshed out it'l start to make more
sense. They'll both be floating on a cloudy sunsetish/twilight
backdrop adding to the surrealness. To use another one of
his works as an example... this kind of background:

I like the feet. It gives it a "hangman" look.

Head bowed down, hands clasped behind the back (as if tied together) feet and toes pointing down. Just add a noose and a tree.

again, great work. I was down near staircase the other day and almost thought of stopping in to check out her stuff. Makes me want to get some of the work done I've been thinking about for a while.
I was going to write up something about the original and how by incorporation the rider you've brought something much more specific and poverty stricken to the piece, but it was a little too long, and not too fleshed out. So, I'll just say it's quite nice. More of a blessing or an ascension, something more personal and powerful than the opening of eyes I think Parkes originally intended. Not that his piece isn't thought provoking by itself.

On my old 'second skin' Dainese Saftey Pro leathers I've
hand painted random panels with red paint and let it wear
and flake off over time for a unique look. You'll see what
I mean by this image. It's the original picture Teresa
used to put a set of leathers in place of the original business
suit...

Woah, That is pretty cool. I have always wanted one but have been in fear of getting a shitty artist.
Teresa looks like a great talent, I know where I'm headed.
