Talking Riding from San Diego on up...

I will be going on a convention in early June and of course I will be riding down there. And my plan is to hit up some nice roads when I am coming back up. Any recommendations?

although I can't think of any specifics, trying doing a search for "riding down south." Suggested routes to atleast LA have been discussed before, and OFCOURSE there is always www.pashnit.com

Out- this is really an open ended question. Did you want to avoid freeways on the way there riding backroads down/back, or hightail it there, and spend all your spare time riding the local roads?

This is such a common question, I made this map awhile back and put this webpage together to help out my fellow riders. Take a look: http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/CoastalMtnRide.htm

Sorry for leaving it as an open question so basically I'll jet down to SD on Sunday morning and on Wednesday I plan not to take too many freeways and hoping to take scenic side roads back to SJ. And I thought there are some people that have any good recommendations for the road way up. I know there are lots of great road in SoCal but I can't all of them . Thanks for the map Tim this one looks promissing.

33 from Maricopa to Ventura is awesome, also if you don't mind a side track route look into that 198 section between 101 and 5. Pashnit's route is right on!

It took me five days to go from San Diego to Sacramento. Damn, those were five GREAT days.

If you have the time, Rim of the World is knock your socks off beautiful.

Indeed! Rim of the World is unto it's own. Although a bit out there if you're riding SD to SF.

Sure, it's out of the way; but, if you can find a way to swing it, well worth it. It sure wasn't on my way back to Sac and I'm glad I took it.

Here's how I see it. He's coming back on a Wednesday, so just take Thur-Fri off work and then it's the weekend. Ride the fun roads, hit Yosemite, too! That' how my one day trip from S.D. back to Sac took 5 days.
