Out- this is really an open ended question. Did you want to avoid freeways on the way there riding backroads down/back, or hightail it there, and spend all your spare time riding the local roads?
This is such a common question, I made this map awhile back and put this webpage together to help out my fellow riders. Take a look: http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/CoastalMtnRide.htm ![]()

Sorry for leaving it as an open question so basically I'll jet down to SD on Sunday morning and on Wednesday I plan not to take too many freeways and hoping to take scenic side roads back to SJ. And I thought there are some people that have any good recommendations for the road way up. I know there are lots of great road in SoCal but I can't all of them

33 from Maricopa to Ventura is awesome, also if you don't mind a side track route look into that 198 section between 101 and 5. Pashnit's route is right on!

Sure, it's out of the way; but, if you can find a way to swing it, well worth it. It sure wasn't on my way back to Sac and I'm glad I took it.
Here's how I see it. He's coming back on a Wednesday, so just take Thur-Fri off work and then it's the weekend. Ride the fun roads, hit Yosemite, too! That' how my one day trip from S.D. back to Sac took 5 days. |
