I busted mine up pretty good in '09. Plates, screws, badass scar The feeling in my fingers and the ability to use my hand came back as the swelling went down. It seemed like forever back then, but now is just a blip on the radar.

Heal up quick and get back on that bike!

I'm experiencing a bit of pain in my forearm that I think might be related to muscle atrophy. Does anyone know how long it takes for that to set in?

In 93' when my wifie was pregnant w/our 1st son, she managed to fall down the stairs & fracture her humerus too. Talk about a high-speed run to the hospital.....whoa.

She had some tingling for a couple months, but it went away as the bone healed, & was gone completely eventually. No pain or anything now...

Sorry to hear, get well soon!!!

I don't know if atrophy can cause pain, but it hasn't in my experience. As nerves heal, they produce all kinds of sensations, however, including pain.

Thanks for the positive words!! Thats a bummer I'd be horrified for my baby in that case.

I jokingly told a couple people that Kyle (oceansides) pushed me down the stairs.

I broke my humerus at the elbow end a couple years ago and the surgeries really mucked with my ulnar nerve. The part of your hand you DIDN'T write on was completely numb for a while, then slowly came back. But it came in stages, which included some tingling, then what I best describe as a bad sunburn, then finally settling in at a bit of lingering numbness. For a while there was some pretty good pain, but about the only treatment for it was anti-depressants, which I wasn't interested in. Luckily, it got through that stage.

It'll take a long time. One of the specialists said to figure about 1mm per day from the injury site to restore normal nerve function. From my elbow to my fingertips measured about 6 months worth of millimeters, which is how long it took me.

We were a little worried about the muscle atrophying while the nerves weren't working, so at one point I was prescribed an electronic stimulation thingy to fire them via electrodes. Kinda freaky but we avoided permanent damage. But no pain.

The sum of medical science on nerves seems to be:

- They're weird and no one knows how they work.
- When they're jacked up, they take a long time to recover.

Good luck with your rehab! And enjoy getting asked about airport metal detectors for the rest of your life.
