I wish I had been given a trails bike as a kid. And had trials riders teaching me at that time.

TTR125L. She will be able to ride it for years and for the most part go just about everywhere you go. Little tough mountain goats. One kick bikes with no choke needed if you put in the easy start jets. E start is a perk but not necessary. My daughter is 15, about 5'5" and just outgrew it after 2 years (but really she started late, so I say... a 4 year growth span bike), it was her first motorcycle. And yeah, you can sell it for what you paid years later. There is also the TTR125 (non L) small wheel that's a little smaller. I'd go with the L though. I've got a stock shaved down seat that we never used but came with my daughter's bike that I might be willing to trade (even temporary for your stock seat) that will bring the seat height down 2-3".

Completely agree. However my daughter and I found its limitations up at high altitude Mammoth doing steep soft powdery hill climbs where it actually managed to run out of power and bog down half way. Surprised the hell out of me because I was a HUGE believer and pusher in rev it up in the right gear.... yeah, 1st gear was too slow and 3rd gear was too high and bogged down too easy, 2nd gear...... only got her 3/4 of the way up. My 300XCW, I just easily moderately chugged up to the top on the same climb. Also the smaller wheels were starting to be a hinderance on really rocky terrain with smaller boulders. Now it just rolls over the rocks and obstacles with much greater ease.
I preferred not having to go to a KX250F (that i modded for slow speed technical trail) but the only option between that and the TTR125L was the rare and expensive(used) klx140G.

Well if you must get a gas bike I would suggest the KLX140. They make them in 3 flavors so the whole family can ride together. KLX140, KLX140L, and the KLX140G. It's electric start and has disc brakes. Not intimidating to ride at all. There's the CRF150L which is close to this bike also.
