Many Flat Track fans need to drive to Clovis (Fresno) to see the Dan Rouit Flat Track Museum. It's a privately owned collection of bikes ranging from board trackers to XR750.
Some are on loan for display.
Dan was a Pro racer until a hiking accident put him in a wheelchair in the mid 70's. He has built an incredible collection.
Hours are limited so call ahead, honestly his health has been up and down recently so sooner better than later to see the museum. It's a registered non-profit and admission is by donation.
Here's a link to the gallery of bikes but it can change a bit. He had a perfect TZ750 Roberts Replica that was featured in Cycle World on loan for about a year, so there's often new stuff to drool over.

Because getting a 2 wheeled vehicle sidawyse at triple digit speeds if just fucking beautifull. Ever get to play on a tt track with a dirt bike? It is as close to flat track as I have ever gotten and it it's intoxicating. Some day before I'm old and grey I want to have the time and coin to learn flat track.

This. I've been to Rich Oliver's Mystery School a number of times, and I keep going back. The steel shoe is just magic!

These two old riders are faster fooling around than most racers will ever be.

Side note had I Chris Carr's parents Gerry and Ann over for dinner Monday night. Jay and Chris did not have transponders on the bikes, but several people were timing them. Jay's fast lap would have been fast qualifier for the night and Chris's fast lap would have been 5th fastest qualifier.

5 years or more ago, when Springer & ace tuner [& former H-D Race Mgr] Werner were teamed up & beginning to sense success with developing
the earliest Kawasaki 650 dirt tracker, they hired Bryan Smith as their rider

since then, across 2012, 2013 & 2014, Bryan has been the top Miler
in the world on various Kaws [this story is 2 or 3 years earlier]

back to the past - Springer & Smith suit up so that Bryan has someone
to test against - except that he couldn't catch Jay, on equal machinery......

while Springer wasn't fit & couldn't maintain pace for 10 or so laps,

I don't know that we'll ever know the answer to that "what if" question, but if I were to list the riders who I think were most talented (not "best" or "winningest"), it would look something like this (not in any particular order):

• Carol Resweber
• Jay Springsteen
• Ricky Graham
• Kenny Roberts

*disclaimer* I am only a very casual flat track fan, and my favorite AMA rider of all time, hands-down, without question is the late, great, Gary Nixon, but I don't think he's on that list

I can't decide who would be my fifth on that list. Every time I think about adding one more person, I find myself wondering, "was Brelsford more talented than Parker, more talented than Aldana, more talented Leonard, more talented than Carr?", so I'll leave it at 4. Flame away.

When I practice or race at the local flat track, I often say "I love the short track oval but the TT is like a drug to me." Not to blaspheme but TTs are my favorite part of the AMA Pro Flat Track season.

Castle Rock, WA TT is tomorrow (Saturday) night. Be sure to watch the live streaming on FansChoice.TV. Event schedule available as a PDF from the AMA Pro Flat Track website. Practice starts at 3:30. Heats at 7:30. Mains at 9:30.
