What's behind the ammo shortage?

An update...

... from the president of Nosler.

Jason Vanderbrink, President of Federal, CCI, Speer, and Remington Ammunition back in December said,

Quote:
It gets really old when I hear and read constantly that our ammunition companies are not making ammunition... All I hear is that we're not making ammunition... rest assured, we are building and shipping more and more every day—right here in the USA.
Now he says,

Quote:
The ammunition shortage that was going on, and continues to go on today, was brought on by a couple factors. Remington was going through a bankruptcy proceeding, and a major manufacturer wasn't making much ammunition...American workers are working once again in Arkansas, and you, our faithful consumers, will soon be able to find Remington ammunition products on a shelf near you...

Big corps are always telling us outright LIES!!!

At least smaller outfits and individual managers will tell you truth. Local shoppe near me said, "we tried to order, but said they don't have any to ship".

Not sure what one has to do with the other.

Basically, they said "we're making as much ammo as we can". As in "given all the constraints on manufacturing, from facilities, to labor, to supply, to regulations, to corporate tolerance for risk and spending", we're "making as much ammo as we can".

Seems like they were.

Now, with Remingtons ammo line coming out of bankruptcy and able to run again, they can, make MORE ammo, because now they have an entire factory that wasn't available before.

Looks like a win-win to me.

Typical meaningless statements I see from CEO's and politicians alike. "Making more and more" means nothing without a baseline. It could mean "making more than ever" or it could mean "making more than last month which was very little or none"

That kind of stuff drives me nuts.

Someone on another forum posted an email from an ammunition vendor stating that prices for ammo will go up at least 7% and primers will be going up 15%.

Got over my laziness and copied the email.

Vista Outdoor Announces July Price Increases for Components & Ammo
April 1, 2021

Dear Customer:
Thank you for your business and for your continued support of American jobs and manufacturing. With new capital investments and unprecedented raw material price increases during these last few months, it is necessary to raise prices.
Effective 7/1/2021 CCI, Federal, Remington, and SPEER ammunition will take a price increase of 7% across all products from our last price list and Primers will increase 15%.
Unless you notify us to cancel an order, we will reprice all existing and future orders shipped on or after 7/1/2021 to the new 7/1 prices.
You will receive your finalized price list no later than May 28th.
Thank you for your continued support of our brands and our American workforce.

Your ammo shop probably isnít buying directly from the manufacturer. They order from distributors, who get their supplies from other distributors or manufacturers.

I hear that they are lining up earlier at Bass Pro Shop. my friend waited in line around 6am so if you get there at 7:30am, you're already late.
