Working, darkness, and cold sure get in the way of working on a bike.
Finally, I had a block of time to further dismantle the ATK!

First task, pull the air cleaner. Easy peezy right? Wrong. ATKs are pretty much built by hand. The airbox in its exquisite beauty is mighty tight. After struggling with this puzzle for an embarrassing amount of time I finally was able to extract the air cleaner.



Looks like I have a bit of house keeping to do



Now to pull off the carburetor.

It'll all be worth it when it's done, though. I can't wait to see this beauty.

After dealing with the air cleaner, I anticipated a very delicate tug o' war in my future.

Surprisingly the Beastie gave up it's parts a bit easier this go-a-round.
What I wasn't expecting was how ill prepared I was for the smell that emitted from that thing!!! Holy Mother of God I got dizzy! This from a girl that has torn apart ancient outboards!!



Yucky black varnish-this baby's going into the pot to get boiled.



The slide is surprisingly fare with less scoring than I had anticipated.



The boot is pretty cracked-added to the parts list

Looks like I'll be working a little this morning, then blowing off my ride so that I can spend some quality day light hours with my beastie

Yesterday, finding myself bent in uncomfortable positions, kneeling on the floor, getting cramps in my legs, I found myself wishing for a lift. Before I could even voice this desire out loud the Other proposed we go down to the new Harbor Freight (less than a 1/4 mile from home ) and buy one.

I surprised him! Like all good girls do, I clean out my pockets everyday and put the money in a jar or in my case coffee cans. We were able to pay for most of the lift from 6 months of spare change.

How did you get the dmv to reduce the back fees??? They've NEVER offered to do that for me even though......well once a lady went back to see if she could reduce the $900 back fees on a car I bought but came back unable to.

So did the dmv just offer to check for you and you got lucky?

It took many visits and a face to face with the supervising supervisor. They still charged for 3 years of reg and penelties for this year

Pretty sure the DMV is the reason CA. Legislators want to make sure we can't get guns.

Yay for a new lift and clean carbs! Oh man, I think that the penetrating, dizzying chemical reek of old gasoline is my least favorite bike-related smell. Even worse than ancient fork oil and roasted clutch.

There's a trick to removing the filter in the airbox. I'm guessing you know it now. Heh, it's a damn quirky bike. Glad to see I wasn't the only one tempted to throw tools around to get the damn filter off.

Saturday morning found me up and at 'em bright and early. I opened the big shop doors and was a little taken a back by the sexiness of these bikes. Oh yeah, I may not have mentioned my other half has a 605 also. How cute, we match



The morning plan was to break apart the carburetor and see how bad things might be in there. I was anticipating the worst as the bike had been exposed to the elements, the petcock left in the open position, and the overwhelming smell of the thing.

Other than black varnish it wasn't even close to what I was anticipating. By some miracle there appears to have been no water intrusion
