Looks to be in the upper 70's daytime and low 50's night time; couldn't ask for better conditions (aside from light rain to keep the dust down).

Friday eve sunset from up at the radio tower? Only takes 45 minutes or so to get up there, right (never been)?

Lightbulb Dayride

I'm thinkin of making a daytrip up on Friday. I'd be on my street bike, ride to Stonyford. Then dirt over to Clearlake. Return to Walnut Creek.

Would I be welcome for the day? Are people gathering somewhere for the ride up? Anyone interested in joining up at Cordelia?

Can someone suggest a good easy route from the campground? Would that be thru Bartlett Springs?

my plan is to be up on Mt St. John around sunset on both Thursday and Friday ...
maybe a sunrise or two, too ...

think it's ten miles from Gray Pine, if we're talking about the same radio tower.
maybe 1/2 hour or a bit more, for me ...

be cool to cross paths with you on Friday at some point!

hope to be on my way up there on Thursday, though ... I do think Bartlett Springs is probably the easiest dirt to Clear Lake, but have not been up that way this year yet, maybe someone has better local knowledge ...?

The only thing it needs is a competent rider. I wish I was kidding. Still, I'm having a blast getting to know this bike. It's insanely fun.

Well, have fun. I'll be working my butt off cutting down dead trees (not many survived the fire, and many of those we thought might make it didn't ) and dreaming of riding and a kegger!

Damn dude, sweet ride. Iíve always wanted to do a ride from the house to Stony through Knoxville, Reif Rd, Ray House Rd and Bear Valley Rd. Have fun and be safe.

That first gate past the camping areas has been chained/locked the last few times I've been there (and weekend before last). Anyone know when it typically opens, or is there another (nearby) route up to Saint John?

I think I'll be sleeping in the Summit Spring area Weds night and rolling towards Gray Pine early Thurs.
