End of the Covid forum in sight

Kind of thinking if things stay well come Sept- Dec we can ditch this forum and drop all of it in the sink.

So many people have contributed to this forum and I thank you all.

I have not listened to a TWIV podcast in a month (too fucking busy )

I hope that happens really. Some life history captured for sure. We shall see but I am hopeful. At least one thread will end up in the best of Barf. Hi bikeama

I have mixed feelings about it.

On one hand, it will be nice to get back to a semblance of normal.

But, this subforum was a place where a bunch of people came together and some of them really shined with the information they could pass on to the rest of us at a time when there was a ton of information that was harder to interpret.

I appreciate the time that many of them spent, especially DR SLO, Snaggy, Yakoo752 and others who contributed along the way. It was another example of the Best of BARF that we see in times of need.

I like that idea better than the sink.

Like the idea as well and very fitting timing

Kinda points to the vaccines being even more effective than previously thought, doesn't it?

I think it points to something else. Epidemiologists were taken by surprise by the CDC announcement.

Though I do think the vaccines are proving to be quite effective.

The CDC stance on people coming here is surprisingly loose.

Kind of sucks IMO.

I'm not buying the latest from CDC, calling it "good" with 40% + vaxxed?

Pure science? Politics, as usual.

I guess the two weeks after Memorial day will tell.

Right from the start, all about those two weeks, over and over

Agree. I suspect we'll see a spike in hospitalizations/deaths. They're definitely rushing things and there are too many people who only care about themselves and will say they've been vaccinated just so they don't have to mask up.

That was always going to be the issue.

Personally, I think that the decision was more pragmatic and scientific that the people who are going to get vaccinated, have gotten vaccinated, the rest are a case of diminishing returns because they're either too fucking selfish or eating up too much misinformation to do the right thing for the nation.

I think that next fall, they're going to really start paying the price for their ignorance but they'll probably blame everybody else for what is likely to come down on them. Not much the rest of us can do about it.

Kind of crazy to call the end of the Covid forum when it is far far far from over in a global sense, which, of course, could have dire implications for even those fortunate/selfish wealthy Countries trying like hell to breathe a sigh of relief and pretend it's "over."

And I'm pretty sure I don't care about those people that make those decisions.

The down side, as has always been the case, is their impact on public health. If they're going to start taking up ER beds etc. for something thats, ideally, trivially preventable.

I'm at two weeks post 2nd dose. In theory I no longer have to "mask up" save for edge cases. But I don't have a problem with keeping the mandate for the short term personally if it continues to remind folks that the beast is still out there and there's things that can be done about it besides barking in the wind.

But we'll see what happens after the mystical June 15th date.
