Another year of silence from the Pacific Subduction Zone. I love Washington, but we’re about 100 years overdue for a 9.0+ that historically happens every 400 years or so.

Anyone else refresh their kit in light of the Alaska quake? Not that it's related, but a definite reminder of what's in store.

Excellent question! I've prepared our household but then I do work in Emergency Services.

Its not difficult to prepare yourself and your home for the upcoming event(s). Do not assume that police and fire will be available when you need them. They will be handling more calls then they have staffing.

Be self sufficient for 72 hours.
Talk to the kids about a meeting spot if there is no mobile service.
Prepare to not being able to drive the car due to traffic jams.
know how to shut off the natural gas line into your home. Have a wrench or spanner near the shut-off valve.

Please think about the possible scenario. Don't be a victim. Be prepared and be able to assist others.
