He had access and experience that we don't. The slow motion video is very telling along with his inputs.

I'm not saying he was 100% in the clear. He went off track. But the 5 second penalty was excessive.

It was the least available if found at fault.

He would have been better off to have ceded the position after going off track rather than moving to block Hamilton when coming back on track, then passed Hamilton. We've seen this plenty of times where a motorcycle rider gains an advantage by cutting through the chicane and not giving back the position and gets called on it. It's been the wrong decision in the case of riders just about every time, it's new to F1 that a driver gets penalized for doing the same thing.

He made a mistake, that usually costs you a position when somebody is right on your tail. His instincts were to not pay the price for his own mistake. Wrong choice.

It's the weakest penalty they can give for that infraction!

He purposely turned back onto the racing line right in front of another car, a violation, and got the weakest penalty possible. And people still complain. The problem isn't the penalty, it's that, once again, under pressure Vettel made a mistake that cost him a result.

Never regret putting down your perspective, but also don't expect everybody to agree with you. The more perspectives, the more angles people get. I'm sure there are plenty who agree with you, just as there are plenty who disagree. It's all part of the KS.

Vettel is a far better driver than I thought if he clinically evaluated exactly where to place his car to block Hamilton without hitting the wall.

I guess that's the good news; that both cars weren't taken out.

No question Vettel swerved to block Hamilton. Should that be a penalty is something else. As the rules stand it is currently a penalty offense. The racing has sucked for a while now.

Vettel gets penalized for not hitting Hamilton, Ricardo does not get penalized for overtly blocking Bottas.

Smith gets penalized for knocking out Espargaro, JLo takes out the #2 contender (and others) and not a peep.

There are inconsistencies here at the highest level of motorsports that smell funny.

In MotoGP, a Spanish series, a Spanish rider would probably have to shoot someone before they’d do anything, especially a Repsol rider....

The need new and substantial evidence to even get a review hearing. Unlikely they have anything new, so it'll likely get declined.

Annnnd...it got declined. I think Ferrari knew it would, but they felt like they needed to put forth an argument to support their driver and maybe get a break down the line. Kinda like the coach arguing a call to get a later call.
