MotoAmerica 2019 Round 5 - Utah June 15-16

Round 5 in the thin air of Utah of Tooele...uh...Grantsville, Utah at Miller...er...Utah Motorsports Campus. Superbike and Supersport are always fantastic here and this year could be the best yet with five or more riders capable of winning in each class. Must see racing.

Compressed two-day schedule and tons of other info available from this MotoAmerica PDF.

I'm hoping that somehow Elias and Herrin get into a slapfest with each other. It's hard seeing a non-Suzuki winning a superbike race without some sort of crash drama.

5-6 more corners to learn, yay. Kyle Wyman said he expects SBKs to do 1:28-1:31 on the East course. The lap record for UtahSBA is 1:31.x.

Turns 1-4 from the Outer course is probably the best sector I've ever ridden. im a little sad we aren't using it. but im kinda excited to learn more, plus viewing for fans should be a lot better.

im super nervous about the 2 day schedule. FP1 and Q1 are close enough to back to back. its gonna be a stressful morning.

MA has adjusted the QP procedure a bit for Utah.

for SS and JrCup, R2 will be gridded based on fastest laps in R1.
for SBK, there's no Superpole and both races will be gridded based on QP.

Does that take some of the pressure off Saturday knowing you can improve your Sunday starting position?

No big loss removing SuperPole for Superbike on the short weekend; its meaningless and a waste of time.

all the pressure for Sat comes from trying to put together a good lap in such little track time. I honestly don't care too much about where I start (as long as its not last).

I think the SS/JrCup change is a test of another "gimmick" to spice up the racing.

the SBK change is likely to save time.

About time for 600 Supersport to head out.

Gillam looks hard to beat. We will see.

stangmx13 earned a better starting spot tomorrow. Good job.

I'm a big Bobby Fong supporter but have to hand to Gilliam to ride mistake free with Fong on his tail. The Superbike race was fun for 3/4 distance. Hoping some set up changes tomorrow get Beaubier's bike working better.

Junior Cup was good as Dallas Daniels finally was able to keep close to Landers. Two talented kids and they are just going make each other rider better all season.

I did?

I think I’m starting worse. The two guys that DNFd did post faster laps than me, so they’ll start ahead. I should be starting 21st instead of 20th.

My race was a throwaway - forgettable. I was exhausted before starting the race, prob due to all the travel, a lack of sleep, and the unforgiving track. I wasn’t able to push my pace back to what I did in QP. I’m glad I was able to bring it home in 20th for that small paycheck. But I’m pretty disappointed.

I’m gonna make some changes tmrw morning to make the bike easier to ride. We’ll c.

Damn MA website was loading the Practice times under results from Supersport Race 1. I had to refresh twice to get it to load the race results.

This PDF shows you finishing 19th. Weak sauce that lap times for DNF riders count toward the Sunday grid. Starting position should be a reward based on race performance. Good luck tomorrow.
