This is really a great story and it makes me really want to get involved in talking to new riders and doing this kind of work as well.

Really great going, Tim.

And to you too, OP. It's not easy to put one's ego aside and listen to a voice of experience. That takes a lot more guts than I had at 17.

There's plenty more to learn and knowing that is a big first step. Try to hold onto that "beginner's mind" that keeps you wanting to learn because it will always serve you well, even tens of thousands of miles from now.

tl;dr version (with pics)

Squid buys fast first bike, snubs barf booth at school, Tim hexes squid's bike and it explodes, squid (now noob) takes msf, buys gear, crashes bike, buys faster bike.

Right on Kevin... and Tim

Followed the story a bit via Tim and it sounded like things were difficult at times, but certainly having a mentor like you had has helped a ton with the learning curve.

A 1Rider success story! Yeah!

We rarely get to hear about touching others and this does warm my heart.

Props to Monta Vista High in Cupertino as well for giving us the opportunity to come out. So many schools just turn their heads on us and don't want the Moto life exposed at the schools.

This is proof it can make a difference.. Looking forward to next years visit and finding one more that can use a little knowledge. Such makes for a better life on two.

Sweet stuff!

If I recall correctly the goal of 1Rider is to reach at least 1 rider and pay it forward.

Compare that with CRAZ88, who has a suspended license, lives with his dad who pays his bills, and basically has the exact opposite attitude:
http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/fo...d.php?t=323490

I took the MSF course and got my first motorcycle in high school. It's been a while since then. I have some friends like Kevin, and know some guys who ended up dead who had 'tudes like CRAZ88. It's just anecdotal evidence, but still...

Given the size of the year-round riding community in CA, 1Rider has the potential to be very successful finding people with the right attitude but wrong information.

For guys/gals like craz88, i guess you just wish them well and carry on.
