Likely for the first

SC's positive test rate is increasing greater then it's neighboring states. Leading indicator of hospitalizations even though the hospitalization rate is coming down...

Sturgis actually hasn't reported too much yet with more follow on testing,

Sturgis COVID-19 mass testing shows 26 positives {in Sturgis residents} on 650 tests

From the article:
Quote:
Testing was only conducted among those who were asymptomatic, the city said. Those who were experiencing symptoms or were tested at other locations arenít included in the count.
Seems like somebody is stacking the odds in their favor...

Right forgot to add that quote from the article ... And then, because of a lack of social distancing seen they did some testing:

Quote:
The two attendees and two people supporting the convention tested positive among the nearly 800 people tested, according to health officials.
The Latest: 4 at RNC in Charlotte test positive for virus

Seems like Europe has been seeing a surge in cases during the summer holiday season.

Not surprising, people are travelling in Europe, congregating in bars heading to beaches etc. My friend was just in Munich and its pretty much business as usual.

I think they know if it comes to it they can lock down again and get their cases back under control.

Bummer they don't give all the numbers. I did find this: "Poland, whose population of 38 million is almost twice as large as that of Romania, is also seeing the rise in infections, with 832 cases on Friday being the second-highest daily number. "

Their population is very close to California's, and CA's new case number on the 26th (latest data I could find) was 4430.

Also, I see my other post was modded. Sorry for the political content, just amazed at the behavior.

I think we will see ebb and flow of cases in the industrialized West until we have some sort of vaccine.

A year at least is my guess.

By then the US will be above 300k deaths I fear.

Nebraska Football players suing their conference for no letting them play Football indicates where the US mindset is in parts of the Country.

Sweden is an exception to the European surge. After peaking in mid June at 1500 new cases per day, they're at 200-300 since early July. And for the past month, deaths have been <= 6 per day, often 0-3.

See data here.

CDC updated their data tables last night and included this new statement.

This is simply an analysis of death certificates, basically what the Dr/pathologist wrote out on the death certificate. Some of these are symptoms of the covid disease. I don't think you can make any statements off of it, like people are attempting.

Snaggy can probably provide more information, if he's so inclined.

and on the other side of the country University of Arizona took a proactive testing approach and is managing the operations of the school with the students on campus.

Quote:
University President Dr. Robert Robbins confirmed to local outlet KOLD News 13 that wastewater samples from the Likins Hall dorm in Tucson came back positive for COVID-19, prompting the school to test the 311 students and staff in that dorm. Of those tested, two were positive and have since been put in isolation. The school is also conducting contact tracing.
This is interesting, I wonder if you could deploy at a low enough level in a municipality.

Quote:
Pepper went on to say that “sewage surveillance is a leading indicator” because “you can detect the virus in sewage seven days prior to symptoms appearing.”

reinfection - maybe a vaccine will be useless.

The 25-year-old first tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-April after he developed typical symptoms of the disease, including headache, cough, sore throat, nausea and diarrhea. Within 10 days, his symptoms had resolved and he later tested negative for the virus twice.

But at the end of May, the patient developed a fever, headache, dizziness, cough, nausea and diarrhea once more. Within a week, his blood oxygen levels dropped and he was hospitalized, where he received oxygen support. Finally, 48 days after he tested positive for the coronavirus the first time, he tested positive once again.
