The Dirtbag Challenge has traditionally been a "low budget chopper build-off"... so the long wheel base bikes that I built in the first few years were just my interpretation of a "chopper". More recently, I've gone back to building more traditional wheel based bikes for DBC.

Here's a shorter wheel base bike I built last year and photographed at the same HP location...

The suspension doesn't look "low budget" to me, unless it's completely shot.

What... you've never seen low-budget Ohlins shocks?

Seriously, the shocks are Yamaha/Ohlins factory upgrades from late 90s era snowmobiles. I've been finding them for $200-350/pair on eBay. If they were from a motorcycle application they'd probably be 4x that price, but they don't seam to have much value to the sled crowd. I've had to design my suspension geometry to work with these as they are much stiffer than what would normally be used on a motorcycle. They work great. So yes, low budget Ohlins suspension does exist

As a side note, several BARF members have donated parts to this DBC bike which helped keep the build budget low... KPKE donated the RZ350 frame, and Butch donated the Lassak expansion chambers. Huge thanks to these guys!

Here you go. Not exactly a recent photo, but it was my bike at the time the photo was taken.

I was going to change thread title to "Post a Pic of Your Bike in a Post-Apocalyptic Setting," but I thought it was too soon!

For those outside the Bay Area, the sky has been red / orange all day. Looks like the filters that movies use for post-apocalypse.

Worked remotely today, didn't want to deal with disoriented motorists. Did ride out to run short errand, however. The car headlights all looked super blue. Grass looked super green. Crazy how orange light changes perceptions.
