Salt Lake City Trip (Lots of Pics) - BARF

Obviously I have survived the trip to Salt Lake City and back. It couldn't have gone better, including the weather. Well, except for one minor tipover that was my own fault.

The trip took a total of seven days ... three days there and four days back, going only about 300 to 330 miles per day. Obviously I could have done more miles per day, but this was my first long-distance trip so I budgeted a lot of extra time for pictures and rest. Here are some pics for your perusal!

Just east of Waterford on CA-132. Driving out of SF during morning commute all the way through Modesto was terrible. Glad to finally have some scenery:

Some sort of dam. I believe at the Don Pedro Reservoir?

Heading east on CA-120 through Tioga Pass. Started getting a bit colder above 9000 feet elevation:

Who is this? The reflection turned out pretty cool:

Stopping for a view of the mountainside in Yosemite:

I sure hope that mountainside doesn't slide away while I'm coming down that road:

Finally made it into Lee Vining. Since it was the off-season I nearly had the entire town to myself:

Just east of Tonopah is the Tonopah Test Range. I don't think I'll attempt any offroading here:

Day three. Got a very early start as I was trying to stay ahead of a storm that was coming east. Sunrise behind the mountains east of Ely, NV:

Welcome to Utah! Here in Border, UT is one of only two gas stations along the 150+ mile stretch of highway between Ely, NV and Delta, UT. In Border, the gas pumps are on the Utah side in order to benefit from Utah's lower gas taxes, and the convenience store is on the Nevada side for the more liberal liquor laws.

The roads are so empty that you can park on them, stand in the middle and take pictures.

Finally made it to Salt Lake City, right before a winter storm came in. After the storm, headed up through Little Cottonwood Canyon to view the final color changes of the season:
