UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies after crash on Concord Avenue

October 6, 2010 16:29 pm · 22 comments

The motorcyclist involved in the accident we told you about earlier today on Concord Avenue & California Street, has died.

The man, who’s name isn’t being released at this time, was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly after 1pm.

Traffic Sgt. Jeff Krieger released the following information to CLAYCORD.com….

On the listed date and time CPD officers were dispatched to a collision at the intersection of Concord Ave and California St. When officers arrived, they located the motorcycle rider on the ground with major injuries. The rider was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision.

Preliminary investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling e/b in the #3 lane of Concord Ave approaching California St at an unknown speed while traffic in the #1 and #2 e/b lanes was stopped. As the motorcycle rider approached the intersection, a 20 year old female driving a 1974 Chevy pick-up was making a left turn from w/b Concord Ave to s/b California St. The motorcycle collided with the side of the pick-up and the rider was ejected.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

If you witnessed the collision, or saw the motorcycle or truck prior to the crash, the Concord Police would like to talk to you. Please call 925-671-3311 extension #4458 if you have any information.

be safe out there

Sad situation all around. I highly doubt the girl driving the truck expected to kill someone today.

Well, perhaps she didn't kill anyone. Given the other two lanes were stopped, perhaps the moto rider failed to stop at a red light. Who knows, but I don't see anything in that article that says the truck was at fault.

Doesn't matter. The rider is dead either way. Ride defensively folks.

the cause is still under investigation... really... a left hand turn.

like archimedes said. just ride defensively thats all you can do, besides stop riding, but who wants to do that.

perhaps the truck made a left turn without looking for oncoming traffic.(rare, I know)

perhaps the 20 something girl was looking at her cell phone.(again, rare)

perhaps, the moto rider didn't run a red light.

ride safe

the left turn lanes yield to through traffic in that intersection, the rider blowing a red and the truck blowing a red? highly unlikely. like i said before this is an everyday occurrence at this intersection, ill put my money on the truck driver being at fault.

I got into a car accident the same exact way ... the person turning left thinks the lane is clear and goes ... there is no way to stop fast enough even at low speeds.

Damn. rider.. Sucks to read shit like this but what It all boils down too is watching your speed and giving yourself cushion/room for error.

anytime a report says "unknown rate of speed" I take that as "rather gratuitous rate of speed"...

This is the rider's point of view.

He was in the #3 lane. The #1 and #2 lanes were both stopped, and drivers had left a gap so as not to block the intersection. The oncoming left-turner did not have a clear view to the #3 lane and crossed in front of the motorcycle.

Be extremely careful when your view to potential threats is blocked by other vehicles. If you can't see them very well, they probably don't see you at all.

RIP rider.

Sometimes I have people honking at me because I refuse to make a turn unless I'm absolutely sure there's no one coming that I can't see. Guess maybe that's a smarter move than I give myself credit for. Thanks for posting that up Dan--really helpful. The more people we can educate about this type of thing the better.

your right the light is farther down, but the spot where sh turned is clearly marked no u turn and no left turn. she wasn't even supposed to turn there. look it up on google maps. it happened in front of the old concord motorsports.

didn't see that dan already did
