I take my 1962 Vespa Scooter 5,000 meters above sea level - Ride Report!

EDIT:
youtu.be/DlJ4Qcf8YFo

Hey Barfers, hope everyones well.. It's been a while since ive posted here, now that I leave on two wheels again in less than a week for i dont know how long i thought it be fun to take you guys along..

A lot of Barfers requested more write-ups than video updates in my last San Francisco to Pakistan Ride Report, so this time around you'll get more of what you like hopefully

Ride Report

June 16
Sorry everyone for being so out of touch. I've been really busy catching up on life and healing my injuries for the past few months. I'm feeling better than ever, and the adventurer in me thinks it's finally time to leave my house again. I have no plans, no bike, just a departure date. Again, the only guide is a direction, and this time it's North. With my bank account acting as a time limit, I'm thinking to ride for as long as I can until I run out of money.

My choices of transportation are never practical and borderline insane. I promise I won't disappoint anyone when I reveal the ride I'll be taking with me on this trip. Will this be something ridiculous you've never seen or heard before?? Of course.. Will there be daily picture updates with a lot of write ups? Of course.. Whenever i get access to internet that is.

Stay tuned, stay excited, I'm taking you all on another adventure!

This last week has been one of the most hectic weeks I've had all year. My ride is far from being in the condition i want her to be in. A couple local mechanics here in Lahore have put a lot of extensive hard work into this machine and yesterday was the first time I've was able to take her out for a spin. I have to say, this ride is the hardest thing I've ever ridden so far. The road will get bumpy and dangerous, and I'm skeptical about my choice of transportation. The ride needs to be 100% by the end of the month and ready for the abuse from the punishing road conditions I'll be riding in. The mechanics have all voiced their doubts, telling me that it's impossible to go where I want to on this thing...

The ride is getting its suspensions dialed in tomorrow with some fresh rubber. I'm thinking she needs a makeover with a new paint scheme, too. Although it'd be amazing, truck art is just too expensive. I'm still looking for a cheap local painter/artist if anyone can recommend one to me. I have to make sure my rides perfect before revealing her. So be patient my friends, pictures will be up to show her off to everyone real soon!!

Sunday June 24, 2012

The mechanics humbly sacrificed their Sunday in order to complete everything for me in time for my departure date. I have less than a week left, and though there's still much that needs to be done, I feel as if everything is coming together quite nicely. It was a nightmare trying to find the required parts for this gorgeous machine and I am happy to say that the challenging task is completed. All that's left to do is to finish the daunting job of putting together these parts and building a mean new engine. The body of this machine is finally rust free after days of prepping it. In a day or two, we'll start putting all together and I hope everything goes as planned. At this rate, my ride probably won't be 100% ready until a day before I embark on my second journey. I still have yet to master being in control of this machine let alone getting comfortable on it, and I'll have less than a day to do so.

These mechanics have been by my side, aiding me with no complaints on the deadline I've given them. "It was a childhood dream to explore Pakistan on this thing," one of the mechanics told me, "but people around me at that time didn't let me. They always told me that this thing you want to go on won't last long on those roads and altitudes. I was discouraged with fears of failure, and now I'm 60 years old and full of regret for not trying to follow my dreams when I was able to." he continued saying, "Khansaab tussi jao ottay tay meray vastay kuch tasweeran iss machine di wapis lay ker ana (Khan we want you to bring back some pictures for us of this machine up in the mountains"
It's as if they get a second chance to live their dreams through me, and I can see the spark of excitement in their eyes. If anything, this adventure will be for them.

Anyone want to see the ride in person on the day of departure or would pictures do? I leave Lahore on the 30th of June.. The venue hasn't been decided.. any ideas?
