Destination Banff, Alberta on the SuperDuke, June '13

I got the time off!

I have a few one week trips under my belt. Time to go for a longer tour. So I think I will head across the border into Canada. Im planning to camp, house crash, motel and hotel.

Still in the planning stages but i'm keeping it unstructured. Trying to keep the days under 300 miles. Looking to travel the smaller highways rather then the interstates. Then enter into Canada via a smaller border crossing.

More to follow...

Now is the time to make sure your passport is in order and your insurance company will cover you and provide Canadian proof before you go. Sounds like a great trip.

Yes, that is a great bit of advice. I think it expires in '13.

I will also check with my insurance company now. These small things can be huge problems if those issues come up.

Join in on the trip!

So, is there anyone interested in doing part of the trip with me?

My first day will be traveling across Nevada and staying in Winnemucca for a night of small town gambling and cheesy casino food. Next night in Utah or Idaho.

This might be a good spot if you wanted to begin your own tour. There is Yellowstone NP. Or you can head into the Rockies. Me? I continue north.

Leaving on June 9th as early as I can. Think about it.

Post up your return route/timeline when you know what it is. Maybe I can meet up with you on my way back from Yellowstone.

I will be returning from an entirely different location. And it will be a couple weeks after.

Preparation for departure

Well, its been almost three months since my last post. My trip begins in two weeks.

I already bought my tent (on sale) from REI. Used it a couple times to practice setting up. Tent technology has come a long way. I also picked up a Jet Boil and fired it up. It is an amazing product.

I picked up a set of Kriega bags from Scuderia during their huge sale a month ago.

Still need to choose a set of sport touring tires that both hold up to mileage and also can handle the torquey output of the SuperDuke 990 motor. I got the KTM heated grips and I just need to install.

Reservations? None yet. And I think that I will keep it that way. For now.

Departure, June 9th from SF.

Sounds like fun. What tent did you end up buying?

Just installed the KTM heated grips. Those things warm up fast! I also got the taller screen installed. Not that is makes much of a difference for me but the tankbag suffers less from bug splatter.

I have also been trying to figure out these Kreiga bags. They certainly are high quality and the more I mess with them the more they make sense.

Still waiting for my RotoPax 1.75gal fuel tank to arrive. That will give me about 75 miles if necessary. It should arrive this week.

I have a set of Pirelli Angel GT Sporttour tires arriving soon and then to MotoShop to install.

More to follow...
