MSF out of CMSP --- Wowsers!

MSF curriculum within CMSP will not be used for the first time since the official program began in 1987.

The MSF has administered the California program since 2004. The program was originally created under a pilot program from 1980 through 1983, when the MSF and the California Office of Traffic Safety signed a contract to coordinate rider education activities in the state.

This begs the question... Who... How...? and

Can someone explain a bit more? Is there an article? Forgive me I don't know what CMSP is. Should I?

Does this mean you cannot get your M1 cert through MSF anymore?

I don't understand.

http://www.ca-msp.org/ Via the Tab at the top of Barf!!!

California Motorcycle Safety Program.

It is the training program people take often called the MSF.
The MSF has held the contract to run the program since 04.
Things changed this year.

I am on the CMSP Advisory Committee and we just got a blast about it.
Not much more to say that I know I can say at this point.

I just know that some other group will end up doing the program.
ABATE does Oregon via another name.. I believe Harley has a program as well.
The MSF is not universal across the Country, but has the biggest name and presence.

What this means for all the Rider Coaches is TBD. They should be good, but likely will end up likely having to re-certify through another organization.

Gotcha. So the curriculum will change to another org at some point and I presume the class will change.

Interesting. May have to go take the basic class just see it. Maybe one of my riding coach friends can give us a preview when you find out.

I don't think it is.

However it is accepted as an equal.. perhaps in California they were using the MSF curriculum?? Not sure, but they are listed in the sites info and stats we review.

So basically someone made a play for HUGE chunk of change MSF controlled up to this point? Will the DMV stop accepting MSF certificates instead of the on bike test now?

I fellow instructor in So Cal teaches that and says it is better overall with similar exercises and a couple extra.

Now I am very curious as to the next few days/weeks and such!

I really appreciate the update.

Not even close. On both counts.

This decision had nothing to do with $. There were/are contract stipulations made be the state. The MSF voluntarily chose to not submit a bid.

The license waiver will live on with the next contract and provider.

As for HD Riders Edge. It can be thought of this way:
Same curriculum with HD 'advertising' throughout. (Over simplified but close)

I saw the solicitation for it go out via a CHP program a month or two ago. I take it CMP didn't win the bid?
