Spring has Sprung

I took my 450 for a ride after a few days of light rain.

The dirt when I was airing down my tires:

Flowers had bloomed:

Atop a hill in Antelope Valley I found this memorial to a rider:

There were rotting dirt bike boots, a picture frame, some alcoholic beverage cans and bottles, and a beverage glass.

I made my way to the west side of Dogskin ridge and didn't find an easy way up for my 450. Thar be dragons thar:

And thar be dragons thar too:

The area got much more rain than my home nearby, or it just can't handle a little rain. There were rain runs on almost every hill or incline. There were signs of small flash floods. And there were wash-outs like this, which freaked me out.

Serendipitously, I found Jizz In My Pants trail. I marked it on my GPS and took a blurry picture for future reference.

A 450 in hero dirt can be pretty damned fun.

Looking east from Warm Springs mountain, over Palomino Valley, to Pyramid Lake in the distance:

Warm Springs mountain:

Taking a break after a rocky trail:

The rocky trail goes over this hill:

Most rain ruts would just take control of the front tire. This one was as wide and deep as the footpegs:

Signs of civilization, Reno in the near distance:

It's funny how while riding JIMP trail I felt I had the motor in the upper midrange, even toward the top end, and felt I was cornering pretty quickly in places. The video says no. I don't care, I still had fun.

Just look south from Monrocks and you will see the communications tower on Warm Springs. Head south on whatever looks/feels comfortable. Most of the two track will be whooped out. There are some smoother dirt roads that loop around the west. You can see them on Google Maps/Earth.

Stay out of the canyons around WS on a loaded KLR because those canyons are for serious dirt biking.

from the roads south of Moon Rocks on google maps ...

That's the ticket. That area is in my video from 3:45 to 6:10. (At 3:45 I've just turned east off Prospect Hill rd.) Some of the ST might be doable.

will check out the video again ... enjoy watching you ride ST, but
this solo-KLR-rider-camper-n00b just says “no” to NV single-track ...

thanks for the replies ...

Sometimes single track is just single track and you could ride it on a street bike. Sometimes it's rocky, off-camber, with a drop-off.

I hope you have vented gear. It's warming up.

Yes, it's vented, but it's a heavy Klim ... gonna suffer in Sacramento this afternoon, ha.
May be triple-digits by 3pm ...

I'm riding on to Cedarville this weekend and the forecast is it'll be
30 degrees at night ... crazy.

thanks again for the intel ...

What's funny is I warned you about warm weather, then it cooled down. Now it's warming up again, so I hope you are back hope ... where it is even hotter than the desert.
