I would just like to report an incident that I had with another rider that nearly caused me a fatal accident onto this ride due to another rider's poor decision making, behavior, and reckless riding ability.
15 mins going into the ride, group A was riding up the hills of Marsh creek rd at a spirited pace about 60+ mph, until a guy in front of me (on a 954rr), randomly decided to slam his brakes almost coming to a stop while we were coming up at a slight right sweep at the speeds of 60+ mph, causing me to swerve around him ending in the opposite lane of traffic, ALMOST hitting the car going the opposite direction HEAD ON. Miraculously, I ended up going in between the car and the rider during the uphill turn and literally missing the car by an inch (very luckily), it was like slow motion and I even saw the look on the face of the driver and passengers of the car I almost hit head on, i honestly thought I was going down. It all happened in a split second and my natural reaction was to swerve to the left right after he slammed his brakes or had I swerved to the right, I would have went straight into the guard rail and fall down the hill. I also knew that hitting the brakes at those speeds would have caused my brakes to lock and skid out of control, probably rear ending the guy and ending up in a fatal crash. Right after I got thru in between passing the rider, I gained back in control and looked back to him and saw nothing in the road that could have caused the rider to randomly stop in the middle of a high speed sweep like that, the road was clean and clear. I did not see any reason at all for the rider to slam his brakes in such situations in that manner. Its as almost like, he just did it out of nowhere randomly, or something has gotten into him or some fear took over him that affected his riding abilities during the ride. It was scary. I understand if there was a loose gravel, or a dead deer or an animal in the road that could have caused him to slam his brakes like that but there was nothing.. It was clear. 15 mins down the road I saw the rest of the guys waiting at a stop point and I came to a stop and complained to the lead of what had happened back there and I was aggravated, the guy almost cost me my life. 5 mins later the guy and the sweeper arrived and I confronted the guy as to why he did what and why he would stop like that for no apparent reason, he seemed shocked and nervous and he simply told me "you were tailgating me", "you were going too fast", and "you were doing wheelies out of the turns" etc. when I dont even know how to do wheelies myself and none of his excuses was true, I had reasonable distance in front of me from the rider of about 60 feet and I was simply going at the same pace as fast as the whole group was going until the incident. After that happened, I felt uncomfortable and unsafe in the ride and we all got left behind by the lead and the rest of the group, and I believe the riders behind the guy had to pass him as well because of how slow he got down to after the incident. The only person that had to stay behind the guy was the sweeper. During a break, he told the sweeper that he refuse to go over the speed limit and would not follow the agreed spirited pace of the group, he stated that he will ride at his own pace (which he has a point) but he clearly was riding way above his riding skills and was posing as a danger to other people in the group. He also refused to pass slow moving cars even if its safe to do so and argued that he's gotten tickets recently for speeding and crossing double lines. He would strictly ride under the speed limit.
Why was he in the A group? I dont know. Why after riding for a while in the group, he suddenly decides to stop going with the pace and ride slow in an unsafe maneuver, slamming his brakes while there are people behind him, nearly causing a head on collision with a car? Why couldn't he kindly slow down to the side and let the people behind him pass if he felt that the ride was going too fast instead of slamming his brakes like that putting the life of other people at risk? I do not want to know..
But I had to put this up here to warn everyone else if you encounter or ride with this guy, Beware of his random actions and his self ego, I dont want anything to happen to anyone. Had it been another rider in my position who had a less experience, luck, or different reaction than I did, something would have gone wrong. At least I threw this out here.
This was the worst and most dangerous encounter I've ever had with another motorcyclist and in some cases, weird. I hope that I would never encounter or see this person ever again in my life. Also, at the end of the ride, me and my friend broke off from the group to head home and the same guy followed us along the freeway and he was all waving and horning at us like we were cool and nothing had ever happened. From that point on I was just shaking my head hoping that I would never see this guy ever again in my life. The whole thing was unusual.
I am not here to embarrass or make fun of anyone or to put someone under the spotlight but when it comes to safety and putting the life of other people at risk, it is a different story, so I put this up here to warn anyone that I can and someone might find it useful or can learn from it. Its all fun and games until somebody gets hurt. Good luck and have a safe riding!
I am a Catholic and I honestly think that guardian angels saved me from that situation and kept me from evil. It was such close call that could have taken someone or ending someone's career. Praise the lord, Jesus Christ.
