Alaska maybe?

Initial itinerary is complete, decided to forgo the ferry and hit Whistler on the way back for some variety. I will most certainly need tires by the time I get to Vancouver. I've got the initial day to day breakdown, but I can't set dates or make reservations until I have new tires on the bike. Then I'll also plan my down day or days.

That is why I am buying a specific Duc socket for the rear. I could have had the KTM guys do my tire swap when I got a flat but they did not have the super huge socket. It will be in my back pack from now on and if on a Saturday during a rally in my pocket.
What size is the socket? Same as the 2016 Multistrada? I have one around somewhere. Also a 200 foot pound torque wrench to tighten that damn thing.

The Ducati Muiltstarda V4 / V4S Rear wheel Socket is M45 x 1.5 according to the Motor Cafe.

I found one over seas, but have not purchases yet. Wifey want to buy off Amazon and I could not find one there.

EDIT Found this on Amazon that says it works but it shows 46mm. :dunno

Just spent 20 minutes looking for that Ducati rear nut socket. I did buy off Amazon and have not used in 5 years. Not where I thought it would be. Too hot to look in my garage today. Will look tomorrow.

Nate if I find it you can have it, if it fits. You will NEED a LONG bar to break that nut.

The Hypermotard is a small hub so thanks, but it won't fit, I do have the socket, double sided to boot, so imm be sure to pack it

99 from Vancouver to Lillooet? Amazing! It was a bit bumpy on the north end a few years ago.

I've been into Canada twice on a motorcycle. Once was a breeze and the other one took 2 hours. My advice would be to cross as early in the day as possible and build a little slush time into that day's schedule.

Nice Provincial Park at Meziadin. No cell phones, but free wifi!

Good advice, I hadn't considered the border crossing time, I'll make sure I get an early start that day!

Do it and take lots of pictures. I vote ride up and if the weather turns on you take the ferry back to Washington.
How much is the ferry?

From Prince Rupert in BC to Victoria Island it's around 500 I think. From ports in Alaska back it's... much much more.

My buddy who did this in 30 days said it got tiring riding all day every day. Up there with construction and washboard roads it can go much slower. They needed tires in AK and pre shipped them. Also consider that anytime after September there can be snow. Allow time for fun vs a grind of get there itis.

Fair, from what I gather washboard isn't an issue anymore, the route I am doing it paved and or chip sealed all the way now, so, it'll be like riding Cali roads. That said, I will be planning downtime, I'll take a day or two near Denali to chill and explore while in Alaska, probably a day or two in Vancouver as I'll be due for tires by then. I'm starting with fresh tires so I should be able to make it to Vancouver, worst case, I take a detour to Anchorage. I'd space things out more, but hotel costs will start adding up.

This will be BY FAR the longest I'll have ridden, Texas in May being the longest to date and that was only 4700 miles. I'm definitely a little nervous as to how I'll fare, but being out of work means that worst case I can find somewhere cheap and take time if I need to. Goal is to be back before the end of the September, ideally mid September so I don't have to deal with snow, closed business or too much rain, though I will be prepared to get rained on as that seems inevitable.

Well, I may be attempting this too late in the year, NOAA is predicting higher than normal precipitation and lower than normal temperatures in their long term forecast. Gonna keep preparing while keeping an eye on this, but I might have to try another time...

A bail out option might be a good thing to have.

Do you have an estimated departure date? September can be nice there, but it will rain more and your weather window will probably close if you don't leave soon, like in the next week.

Thanks, I'm starting to hesitate because the long term weather forecast is looking rather damp, gonna keep an eye on things with a goal of departing this weekend, but, I'm not really excited about day to day rain so I may pull the plug for this year...
