Best Southern Fried Chicken in the BA?

You have to come to Oakland for the best, and the very best is five blocks from my house, so bring your Pits when you come.

Be prepared to wait, everything is cooked to order. Neat people, great food. As good as anything I ever got in the south and better.
What kind of armament do we need to bring, and how large of a contingent in order to assure that we get back out of there safely after getting your food? :twofinger

This is a nice hood, a small concealed weapon or golf club is all you need.

Good to know, I'm always looking for really good restaurants. Safe to park a bike with a Öhlins steering damper near there?

That sounds great!! Are you free this weekned (early)?

Can we have a mini-gathering there? Because that place looks good!

Great!!

Anyone that doesn't like fried chicken must be a little soft in the head.

I agree 100%!!

I remember Val's in Daly City had good chicken but that was all that they had worth remembering.

You can't buy real southern fried chicken. You need to start with a nice big frying chicken. Then you need a large fry pan with very hot Crisco shortening. You can just flour the outside or use crushed corn flakes, your choice. The hotter the oil the better (just starting to smoke).
That is how Mom made it and there is nothing store bought that is even close.

So true. I grew up in Okieville east Stockton. Neighbors mom made chicken that way. Great hot, even better the next day cold with wonder bread and butter. I have never had better chicken.

^^My Mom made it exactly as russ describes, with flour, no corn flakes. She never set foot in the South but seemed to have it down. She always used an electric fry pan. Lordy, when I saw that pan come out I knew it was gonna be a good day.

Ed if you like fried chicken, forget Popeyes in RWC. There's a BBQ place called Three Pigs in San Carlos (I think) that does some pretty damn good fried chicken. The BBQ was kinda meh to me but the mac and cheese and cornbread muffins were pretty awesome.

House of soul in the vallejo.
Brown sugar kitchen in Oakland

Popeye's is good stuff. Looks like they saturated the East Bay :laughing

Homemade fried chicken, still a work in progress. Deep fryer then baked.
