I just rode section 3 of the CABDR. I'd intended to ride section 4 also, but a slight injury made it hard to pick up the bike, so I didn't. Gen 2 KLR650, Shinko 804/805. I made a short video of the trip.

Nice congrats on finishing Section 3. I think Section 3 was probably one of the most sandiest sections. it was a slip n slide. Probably the most dabs the whole trip haha. There are some great roads to ride in Mojave Preserve! Too bad you didn't do Section 2 that had some pretty rough OHV trails and Section 4 has the powerplant and mine and super rocky hillclimb.

Thanks. Section 3 was 120 miles, and I figured only about a mile and half total was deep sand, but that's what I remember most. At some point my front end would become suicidal.

awesome vid! :thumbup

loved all the Joshua Trees, gotta get out there someday ... :ride

You'll love it like riding in baja no rice and beans tho :ride

I forgot to mention a few facts for KLR riders.

My bike is a 2017 with the usual modification (crash, suspension, lights, etc.) I ride 14/43 gearing all the time. OEM gearing is too tall for easy slow work, and I have found little change in mileage. On this trip I got 43-50 mpg on highway, fully loaded. The difference is due to wind. I rode through three desert wind advisories. I could have made 80 mpg with a spinnaker.

Off-highway mileage shocked me. It was only 32 mpg, and I was rarely over 30 mph, often much slower. Altitude was generally 4000-5000 ft. Churning sand must have been a workout; it was cool and windy, but my temp gage was often at halfway in sand (on highway it's usually near the bottom, 180).
