For those of you who got in on the Groupon buy a few weeks ago, and for those of you who should have got in on it but missed out... let's go go-karting!

Place: K1 Speed, 2925 Mead Ave, Santa Clara
Day/Time: Wednesday, Dec 7, 7:00 PM
Price: For those of you without a groupon, it's $6 for an annual license, and $20 for a race entry.
Dinner afterwards: Maybe. There are a bunch of places right up the road at Lawrence.

So far it's just the wifey and I, so post up if you're in. Time is adjustable, too...

Ooh, I think I can drop by...

Good times! :party

Had the new place almost all to ourselves for two races. :cool

I placed last both times! :laughing And I didn't like the track layout so I rearranged one of the turns... the hard way! :facepalm :later

It was noisy mainly from the tires screeching, but nothing like the real-engined things - and no :barf exhaust fumes!

Let's do it again sooooon!

Looks like fun was had by all!!! Sad I missed it.

If I wasn't in the middle of finals I would have headed down. :(

Last time I went though I got a pretty bad bruise on my leg from hitting the adjuster thing from getting shoved into the wall by a friend and a pretty sore back from getting hit head on. :rofl

Yeah - I was surprised that they didn't offer/have the neck braces - don't the other places use them?

I don't own one but would sure consider it if I go again.

:)

Good times, indeed. Thanks for coming out, guys! Next time we'll hit the trampoline place next door, too...

Moike shredding it:

Bummed that I missed this. I probably should take the moto or cage to work instead of the bicycle, then I probably could have made it. Here's video clip from my visit there last Sunday. Excuse the bad camera angle; I probably should have mounted it higher on the rollbar.

is this a revived SpeedRing? Looks like the same location too...

It's across the street, behind City Beach. The trampoline place is still at that old location.

And no, I don't think it's the same folks - I know one of the ex-co-owners of SpeedRing.

Those karts look kinda slow, has anyone gone to both K1 and gokartracer and noticed a difference in speed between the karts at the two places? I felt gkr's karts went a reasonable speed.

The karts may look slow in the video (actually, the first few laps, the karts are electronically limited in power by remote control), but I personally feel they are quicker than the karts used by both GKR and LMK. However, I would not be surprised if the top speed of K1's electric karts are in the same ballpark as the Sodi RX7 karts that GKR/LMK uses.

Bumping an old post to give the karters here a heads-up:

K1 Santa Clara has reworked their course layout! The new course is actually a bit quicker then the old one (my lap times went from 24s to 22s), and it is WAAAY more fun. It provides better opportunities for racing and passing then the old course, so when you're out there with a bunch of people running the same pace as you, it feels like you can actually dice it up instead of just running nose-to-tail around and around. They actually only changed two sections, but it makes it feel like a whole new track. :thumbup

You should come to the March 5th meet at GKR.

They (K1) also have a "buy1 get 1" special extended through February!
