Let's get his forum started off with a short ride to commemorate. Anyone interested in doing the Great Divide ride with me this summer? I'm shooting for sometime in July, but I'm somewhat flexible on timing.
My summer is already committed, but I'm interested in your plans. North to south or south to north? The whole length, or part of it. How many miles of range is needed between fueling opportunities?
It would be cool to follow your planning and progress here.
My route is going to be based on the Adventure Cycling Assoc. route with a few detours to some enticing places that are near the route. It's about 2700 miles long from Mex. to Canada, but I'm going to be starting in northern NM and heading north. The ACA maps have lots of info such as area history, local amenities, elevation profile and camp sites. No gas stations, but the GPS can provide that. Not sure of required range yet.
I just got done reviewing the route thru Colorada and it looks like this segment is going to be amazing.
No firm dates set yet and I'm flexible. I've heard of people finishing the whole ride in two weeks, but I haven't really figured out what my schedule will be.
I've got a friend who did it in two weeks and he said it kinda sucked that way. Every day on the road by 7-8am, riding til dark, no days to chill, little time to enjoy where you are. I'll let you know if I can swing 2-3 weeks off in August as this would be awesome!
