so I bought a helmet cam but have to borrow the recording device to actually use it. I am not too familiar with his camera and have been looking for small and cheap way to record so I can keep it unobtrusive when I ride.
I have seen these dvr's for about $200
I am ni a bind as I need/want it to be up and running this weekend for my two days at Thunderhill and my NRS
any suggestions?

From what I understand, a solid state device is the best way to get video without dropped frames in the smallest possible package. Unfortunately, the one I tested from a helmet camera supplier was considerably less than flawless and I sent it back. I've been using a Canon mini DV camcorder with pretty good success, but it's bigger than ideal and occasionally gets a little interference under some hard vibration. I've been told that the microdrive mini dvr's skip frames under vibration- I have no experience with them.

ive been using a small canon mini dv for about 5 years with no problem in dropped frames or anything else. the secret is where you keep it. a large hiking fannypack and some foam worked well for me.

I've got the Aiptek PDVR. Bought it from Circuit City.

It's got an auxiliary jack that you can plug the helmet cam into, and it records from the helmet lens instead of the built in camera lens.

I have an AIPTEK MPVR, though I've never used it for the helmet cam. If you wanna try it out, you can come by my office (San Mateo). You can test it out to see if you like it. We paid only 80 bucks at target for it. anyhow, if you wanna try the aiptek camera out, PM me. I'll be at work tomorrow, but not Wed.

FWIW, I haven't had any recording problems with MiniDV either. It'd be nice to not have to capture video to edit it though.

Also, I've heard a lot of people say good things about the Archos. They're a deal at Wally world right now. ~$200. But you need their camera. It's a proprietary connection, so your helmet cam won't work.

radvas, I pm'd you a few days ago. like to take you up on your offer.
