I may suck at dragracing......

btw........i used Mobil MXT4 synthetic oil. dyno oil might not be up to the task of clutchless shifting. i don't know. but i'd rather run with the best :p

Draggin

Congrats on your first time drag racing.
Last summer, my buddy and I went to Sacramento Raceway to drag.
He had a 96 YZF-750 best time was 11.9 at (forgot mph)

I raced my CBR 600 F3, wheeled off the first 75 feet......set the front end down, and continued to redline the S**T out of my bike.
My best time out of two runs were 12.4 secs. I remember I had a hella slow reaction time.

If anybody needs a quick rush to the head, drag racing sure is it!:wow

dude, those are pretty good times for your first time draggin man, Im sure come the 2nd time around, you will be way better, especially since ur bike has a ton of HP!! good shit man!

Great writing, it made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me feel .... OK, sorry, congrats on your first time, were you nervous, I think everyone is nervous their first time. Good thing you didnt race a Harley, you'd have got your ass handed to you. haha J/K. What were the Harleys running?

I'd love to watch and check out the action next time you go. (but not race)

Those really aren't bad results for your first time. Like I told you before, I have literally hundreds of dragstrip passes behind me and have exactly two trophies to show for it. A first place on a bike (VFR 750) and a runner-up in a car (9 second big-block Vega). And the best time I've ever been able to run on my 929 is 11.03 at 128MPH. My 60' times still suck (1.80's) and my reaction times are in the .700's. So it obviously takes a lot of practice. People who say drag racing is easy have probably never done it.

Way to go Aries! :thumbup
Nice write ups..good results for a first effort..experienced drag guy now...I'll get the full story at the Q.

Sweet dude ..sweet!

:smoking

Great write up Aris! Glad you had fun; sorry I couldn't make it. Maybe next time as I love drag racing now that I don't roadrace anymo; only twisties & occasional trackdays nowadays. Your times were almost identical to my first time on the ZX12R. In my 5 runs couple months ago @ Sears I got:

11.66 @ 130 .528 1.90
11.68 @ 129 .575 2.09
11.72 @ 128 .628 2.12
12.22 @ 127 .899 2.31
red light, no time

My best run was the first! Go figure eh' ? I just couldn't launch the sucker & as I started having clutch "grabbyness" that got progressively worse. The last run it "creeped" me right through the lights (even holding the brakes) & bingo red light.

Next time I'll have the new Muzzy clutch, & try launching at a lower rpm (was over-revving it.) The ZX12r is much harder to launch than my ZRX. For comparison w/the ZRX I can do 12.2's pretty easy without riding anywhere near as hard.

For comparison a close friend with a ZX12R who runs all the time does 9.9's-10.3's @ 139-146 pretty consistently. All his Ninja has is links, strapped, & a Muzzy pipe. Goes to show what experience does for you.

We will have to go side-by-side up at Sears Wed. night sometime soon. :teeth:

Dave

Thanks to everyone for your encouragement. The actual season starts in January, so I have a lot of practice to do until then.

hehe.......wow...sounds like you had fun.

how did u shift???

i've drag raced a few times with my VFR......best was a 13.00 sec with my fat self and bonestock VFR. i could've done much better, if i hadn't gotten 'falsies' or false neutral in between shifts......

Ok, now that I have time to answer questions....

I only used the clutch between first & second gears. I just had this nightmare of accidently banging into neutral at full throttle. Ooh, that could hurt.... The rest were clutchless.

Well, that's one reason why I want to run a lot faster. There a class were the breakout is 9.90. There was prize money to be had in this class for the top 8 finishers, and there were only 6 people competing in the class. I actually thought about entering that class just to get some money for seventh place. :teeth

I figure the pipe, PCIII, air shifter, & shift light might just be enough to get me into that class....on top of the strap and lowering links.

Mmmmmm.....prize money.....:teeth

Actually, there were Harleys that ran all accross the board. There were some guys running road kings (saddle bags and all) running right around 14-15 second passes, and then there were the top fuel harleys running in the high 6's @ 200+ mph. Those top fuel guys are just plain crazy. Any class where you're required to wear a full flack jacket just in case the pistons blow out of the engine is just too insane for even me.

Good story man, at least you didnt go flying like that one dude that just lost it at the beginning.

Hey wannabe, Sac Raceway has "grudge drags" on the 25th or 26th. Lots of fun. No eliminations, just racing all night. Went out their for the first time on my ZX6R and got 11.5 @ 124.

EastBayDave,Like you, my first run was my best??? Go Figure:confused

Wannabe,I also did the double wheelie run...:teeth ... scary shit, also looked funny on the video, whiplash.

The guys I went with were running 10's all night, (r-1 and gsxr1000). Their was alot of 'busas and zx-12s with stretched swingarms and bottles.

My bike kept making a funny sound before shifting, then I figured out I was hitting my rev limiter in every gear, DOH!

November Drags

aris

Sounds like you have become a dragger, now you can never stop. Keep me posted on the next races, i need to finish off the clutch in the bandit and maybe make a pass on a borrowed 12 or Bus. (you know who you are!)

Is there a website or anyway for me to get some more info on the november drags, or the series in jan.? Keep me updated!

Dude,

I'm glad you finally found the thread!! I'm actually kinda anxious to find out if you can get my baby to run in the high 9's like they say it can. :teeth

As for the links:

http://www.sacramentoraceway.com/

http://www.infineonraceway.com/

The two above links are for the two tracks I'll be racing at this season. The test and tunes we'll be going to will be at Sacramento. Basically, I'm planning on racing in the Summit series, which starts in January. I'm hoping to get fast enough (me & the bike) to run in the fast bike & bracket classes. The fastbike has a 9.90 breakout, so we'll see where that goes.

Check your PM's. I'll shoot you my number.

Oh, and WELCOME TO BARF!!!

Nice write up. I've never tried it at the drag strip. I always thought an AFM start, with 60 of your closest friends, within a 100 yards of a left hand turn was plenty.

It actually sounds like fun, and I might actually learn something.
