Need advice on luggage, top cases.

Hi folks, so when I go on long rides I typically take my 890SMT and have amazing soft case luggage on it, so no problems there.
I also have 23 701 SM......I tried soft side luggage, well, slip on took care of left side mount burning it to a crisp Luckily it didnt start a fire.
I am looking for inexpensive option for rear top case mount.
Looked at NICECNC Top Rack mount or Tusk Top Rack mount.
Both of those options account for a weird position of fuel filler cup on 701.
Now, question, do top cases in general require just a few bolts to connect to a mount ? We are not talking GIVI, but lets say I get a Tusk mount and would want to get Vevor top case....would they be compatible ?

This was my overnight setup for the 2022 KTM 690 SMC-R
No rack—didn't want to hassle with fuel cap access. I hooked paracord under the seat and used carabiners to quickly attach/remove ROK straps to secure a small duffle bag.


Day trips, I only need the Nelson Rigg soft saddle bags.

Had a left saddlebag (Wolfman, shown) burn from the hot catalytic converter that was integrated with the OEM exhaust. Arrow slip-on deleted that cat. No more

See if Back Road Equipment make a rack for your bike. They have a top plate and pucks that you use on a case of your choice. I've had good luck on my 1090 and my CRF300 Rally. I actually used their Africa Twin rack for my 300 and it worked great.

On the trip I detailed in this thread (below), I was using Mosko Reckless R80 luggage. For the Eureka Rally coming up. I plan to use the R40 luggage, and the same Alpine 30 duffle on the tail since I need to bring my laptop.

I used the PowerParts rack originally, which was fine, but I ended up using the Nomad ADV rack, and the side rack/stand offs. Perun is another god option. But the Nomad ADV rear rack is great, especially using the Mosko Gnobblin and Mosko luggage.

I saw 890SMT, and didn't realize you were looking for a 701. Definitely check out the Perun/Mosko options for that since they accomodate for fueling access.

Well that's sucky - sorry.

I would have thought you could mount a Givi plate to most any tail rack.

If you have a tail rack that you can bolt things to, there's always the @ScottRNelson school of Harbor Freight "not a Pelican" cases in striking Black, Orange, or Desert Tan. $35 on sale! BYO bolts, nuts, and washers.
