Priority's:
Low-mid price
Brand name
sturdy, able to travel
Quality display (doesn't have to be big though)
Small/ light weight

Look for a USED or NEW old stock Dell Lattitude c510, and get a second battery too.

Thanks, I'll start shoppin'

I've heard pretty good things about fujitsu's... I know a couple people who had them, treated them like shit, and they kept on thumpin' just fine. Pretty quick too.

Ditto.

wait until Dell has $750 off of $1499 purchase... and pick up Inspiron 700m.

Comes to about $830 shipped.

You know, I ordered one of those Latitudes for someone here work and I have to say that I wasn't impressed with that line. The buttons and plastic casing seem cheap and very easily broken. Much like Compaq's Evo line (which by the way, replaced the Armada line).

Something mid grade, sturdy and a good work horse I'd say stay with the Inspiron line. The 2200 is a great lil' laptop. They just remodeled the exterior to all black and it looks cheap, but it's pretty sturdy. We have about 20 of them here at work and some are even used by High School kids and I haven't had a problem yet. Go for the 14in screen, it's a lot lighter model.

Thanks for the suggestions, I've been looking at the suggested models.

Now I'm wondering, is one processor better for wireless performance ?

I see, pentium 4, centrino, celeron, and transmeta crusoe, as options (funny, didn't see an amd option )

check out gotapex.com for their dell deals, there is usually something good showing up every couple of weeks.

that being said the only laptop i'd buy would be an IBM, mac, or toshiba.
