Ovens

CR rates Kenmore, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire, Bosche and Maytag very good.

Induction ranges newest development. A range top completely cool to the touch. Heat is produced in the metal pans.

Heh it'll be the type of range/stove in the right color and venting that'll deciding the range. How quickly search narrows down if you want a stove in white or a island slide in with venting.

Tip on oven temp I learned watching Good Eats, ovens lie. Buy a decent in-oven thermometer and you'll know the actual temp. Are there any small business incubators around here where you can rent space? We had them in NC, could be a good option for commercial kitchen to meet food prep resale standards while you try to make a go of it.

commercial ovens can be calibrated and should be often.

there are, PM Anti-Cupcake (not sure she's still on here) and she can provide information. It helped launch her business.

Our gas oven gets to temp just not when you think it does so I use a thermometer and recheck the temp prior to puttin anything in.

I have a Montague and have had no issues other than replacing plugged pilot's from sloppy peeps using the stove. I think it is going on 10 years.

Damn but I want the deep fat fryer!

You don't like our bicycles OR our ovens? How about our town?
You have a town!!
Hell, the best my family name can do is some boarded up ghost town in the middle of TN with everyone with the same name. At least that is what my momma/sister told me.

We might be related!

Yes, you want convection.

My Jenn-Air double ovens are piss poor ovens. Unimpressive in every way. I did a bunch of research to find a new set and I could find nothing currently on the market with any decent reviews. Asking around netted nothing useful either.

This is exactly our experience (we replaced our dual wall oven with a Jenn-Air about 5 years ago). Piece-o-crap. Noisy on convection, lousy temperature accuracy, microwave burnt a magnetron out (after warranty of course) that cost $400+ to have replaced. Stove top range is just as crappy. Never again.

We just replaced a Frigidaire with Jenn-Air. It turned out our only choice when narrowing the field to the range that we wanted. Jenn-Air is a middle choice between economy and commercial. Its all gas stove. so far worked excellent. Baked up some PB cookies perfectly.
The old Frigidaire was built like a tank. Finally replacement parts became obsolete and no one had anything in stock. Its electric oven was tricky, sometimes perfect sometimes not.

Gas Ovens

Anybody know why my oven don't heat?

It's a GE basic model.
The ignitor underneath the baking compartment is glowing. Not sure how hot it gets but it it lights up then glows brighter, etc..

Only the burner stalk never starts burning.

There is gas--the tops are working.

And finally.. unfortunately I can smell gas after about 3-4 minutes of running the oven only. Still looking underneath--no fire, just the glow.
