Gloria Steinem created a movement, National Organization of Women, who drove cultural enlightenment and a demand for change resulting in legislation granting women some of the rights that men are entitled to.
 
Not political, just social:

I look forward to the return to equal rights in this country.
I don't know how long the current pendulum overcorrection will last, but I hope to see it very soon, and at least I'm my lifetime that the lasting effects of this horrible return to the worst of the patriarchy are eradicated, and remembered as a huge social mistake.
But sadly I believe we have to go deeper into the darkness the way things here and elsewhere are trending.

Sorry Gloria, you could have rested in a bit more peace if you left 8 years ago when we were still making an effort at social Justice for all
 
In the larger sense wouldn’t it be great if the reforms Steinhem and others put through in the US would be adopted by other countries where women currently don’t have a voice.

Sadly “it’s a man’s world” is still true in a lot of places.

So true Ed. I feel it's gone a bit backwards, yet our neighbor to the South did elect a woman president :thumbup That's something I don't anticipate in our country's future.

Things have backspun with many of our nation-friends. It's a bit concerning, but at least they're starting to push back and protect women. The US has a concerning direction itself. Women are losing protections within their own movement. It's not good.
