Used AAA towing for the bike.

I was hoping DNA would send the Tundra....

Double check your AAA coverage. I thought all levels cover motos. Only Premier does.

Only the most expensive one that is correct Premier. It the one for RVs or something.

I have AMA and AAA. AMA automatically renewed me but they sent me a letter saying they were going to renew me so how does that save costs =p ?

I probably would have just taken the forks off and driven those to the dealer. I've done it before on a couple of the Ducatis that I used to own. That wasn't for fork seal issues, but to get them serviced and revalved.
As mentioned earlier, I would have simply cleaned up brake fluid off rotor and tire and ridden to the dealer.

I've had fork seals fail several times in very out of the way places. Middle of Baja, Eastern Utah, Oregon.

All you need do is tie a absorbent rag on fork leg below seal to catch leaking fork oil. Change it once or twice a day. Eventually, that fork leg will run out of oil.

Options are to try to clean under seal with 35mm film (I've done this with some success) or refill with oil (even ATF is OK) or replace seal cause as an ADV Rider you carry a spare set ... RIGHT? :teeth

So, I've ridden thousands of miles on leaking fork seals. BFD. You have to pay attention, keep oil off rotors and tire .... should be OK until a proper repair can be initiated.

Boys, this really is minor stuff. Tow Truck? you must be kidding! :wow

Yeah, I wouldn't rely on AAA or AMA towing to save you. It's pretty much a crapshoot, and odds are the guy they eventually send won't know what the fuck he's doing.

I've tried to use my AMA towing benefit twice. First time (dead stator) I was stuck in Pt. Reyes all day waiting for them to figure their shit out, then told it would be $600 to get my bike back to SF. Saved by a roadside angel.

Second time was actually within SF city limits (dead stator again??) and it took several hours for them to send a massive flatbed and a guy that had no idea what to do with a bike.

Everything you said is correct, if I was in the middle of nowhere. Got the AAA Premier for the RV but it does cover the bike. Bike under warranty, have a mc tow service local so why not use it.

Main reason is a dead line. Need bike ready to ride for Bill's birthday ride on Oct 15. If not fixed will need to beg or borrow a bike. Need to buy a spare bike.

Yeah, that's true, but when you need it, it's worth it.

Had my Goldwing towed ~60 miles or so back home when the alternator went out. The driver did a great job of securing that big of bike, very professional.
well, my renewal is in April, so i might do it next year. that bill to replace the alternator musta been FAT......:wow

those straps are probably capable of bending various parts of your moped!
Yeah I actually had to tell the guy that putting the little bike on a "rack" like that could pull it apart. He was nice enough, but wasn't very experienced with bikes.

I'd found out back in May that AAA will cover moto tow only if you the top tier membership. I'm on the second tier and they patch me to a nearby tow Co. they quoted me $300 one way back to the city, under 10 miles.....:nchantr

It's my understanding that you can upgrade your policy in the field if you have to, but yes you do have to have the Premier package to tow bikes. ;)

I've used AMA Motow twice. My friends have used it twice and my son has used it twice. In every case the dispatcher on the phone was awesome. Kept in touch. My son broke down on a holiday weekend during a 106 degree day. All tow trucks were busy. Dispatcher kept checking in to tell him he wasn't forgotten and got him a tow within 40 minutes. Tow driver was a rider and took good care of him.

Mad
