Good stuff... Funny how it's soldered like a radiator and the dents were leaded. Nokorode is good stuff btw,

But I'd braze it back together with some SilPhos.

Mr Kalle is leaving for Poland on Monday, using a $250 one-way ticket to attend a vintage Indian rally in Europe.

if yer an SFMC guy, you go with a pocket full of stickers to give away, or stick in appropriate places:

he shipped the 1946 Indian Chief ona boat a few months ago, and the bike will remain in Europe with friends after this adventure, until next time … sounds like fun. :ride
 
I've done my share of tinning and soldering; but I wonder, why not braze the joints with 15% sil-phos?

I'm wondering if you're meaning silicon brazing? If so the temperature would be way too hot for the 22 gauge steel. Soldering only requires about 400°. And that's what the factory did. Although in the later years 52 or so they did go to silver solder which requires a higher temperature about a 1000°.

The trouble we all run into with soldering is that it work hardens over time and after a 60 to 80 years it gets brittle and cracks. Thinning and soldering brings it back to ground zero (factory) and gives you 50 years of serviceable lifespan.

Reproduction tanks from Matt Blake were all welded and those are the best tanks out there for a rider although not true to the original manufacturing process. Not having your bike catch on fire is a pretty good thing.
