Anyone ridden Wilder Ridge Road from Mattole Road to Briceland recently? I am riding from Weaverville to Shelter Cove tomorrow, and planned to ride all of Mattole and Briceland Road from Redway. But I wouldn't mind cutting 101 out of the mix. I will also be coming back through here in several days and might explore Wilder Ridge heading north. Searching teh Barf, it looks like tight switchbacks, narrow, and some gravel? Any intel if the road has degraded further in the last few years?

I met with a rider last week who rode up north from the bay area. He told me that he had ridden Wilder Ridge, Briceland and shelter cove.
He said it was all open and the roads are in the usual, perpetually degrading state of repairs. Bad for a cage, but easier to avoid pot holes on 2 wheels.
The weather has been perfect lately, and I don't see any changed in weather for the next week or so.
All of the roads tha yu mentioned are normally pretty goaty, so be prepared for that.

Awesome, thank you! I might explore this on the way north, since I am coming from Little River on the day I would ride through here, and staying in Trinidad that night. It might be a bit easier than trying to squeeze it in, coming from Weaverville, since I am riding 3, 36, Mattole first. Saturday, I am riding from Shelter Cove to El Granada, which will be a fairly big day, and I'd like to get to Shelter Cove tomorrow at a reasonable time. But Wilder Ridge has me super interested! I've never been one to shy away from goat trails!

Wilder Ridge has a couple of gravel switchbacks that are steep and can get pretty dusty in the summer and a couple of stop signs where the road has deteriorated. Keep
your wits about you and you’ll be fine. I haven’t ridden it in about six months so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Eat an ice cream at the honeydew store for me.

Briceland makes my dingle tingle, big time.

Rode that a few weeks back! The gravel switchbacks on Wilder Ridge were loose enough on the inside of the corner that I went wide as it caught me by surprise. No shortage of crazy cage drivers either.

That description of the switchbacks sounds spot on.

Tracie never would have made the inside on the Canyon with its fat rear tire! As it was, my bike's traction control almost kept me from making it.

I have gone wide on that corner after checking for an incoming dust cloud from above. I hate it every time. It feels so wrong.
