Ran across this today.
Philip Paxson killed going over a collapsed bridge.

Since it was down since 2013 and GMaps informed several times his wife is suing.

Sort of shocked local authorities did not have any barriers up. :wtf

Wonder if one of there robot cars would have plunged too?

Well that sucks. I don't like our litigious culture, but if people are reporting something for years that's dangerous with a service being provided and they ignore it...they're kinda asking for it. Local agencies too if they didn't have anything posted. It all seems like easy pickings for a lawyer.

not really paying attention, one supposes ... :dunno

the "google street view" would be interesting to find.

I would assume it was night. The article said he was in an area he was unfamiliar with.

Could have been day time though. Our trust in tech to lead us to where we want to be or go is has been pretty strong for the last century. More so in the last 60 years.

Todays yutes are even more engrained in it and I think that plays into their acceptance of robot cars as an example.

yes, didn't want to appear to be blaming the victim ...

just that I suspected there was some explanation for a lack of a barrier after almost ten years. maybe it was coned off or there was one of those folding "road closed" signs that went away at some point. anyway, it appears they have some serious barriers, now.

Did not see it that way John.

They just need a ramp on each side and they could open it for supermotos :p

Given the lack of permanent barriers, I suspect the municipality will be paying out as well. I'd think that would be an easier lawsuit. But suing Google is better clickbait.

Yeah... we will probably have to agree to a terms of service soon.

Section 230. Alphabet won a case recently where parents sued because terrorists plotted terrorist attacks in Paris in YouTube comments. It offers pretty broad protections to Internet service providers. Generally speaking, if people drive off cliffs following GPS, they are ultimately responsible not a flawed and constantly changing data server.

Good to know.

So that covers maps and stupid shit called barf too? :teeth

I don’t know about barf, weren’t you alluding to a lawsuit in an earlier post to indemnify yourself as an owner from the behavior or actions of barfers?

I got 90 millions posts. I don’t recall. :laughing

We do waivers for rallies. Wife would love for me to stop this stuff. According to my attorneys legal advice I am damn safe really. Safe Harbor he called it and I incorporated per his advice.

People have driven their cars off the end of a dock because they're stupid...I mean because a GPS told them to.

I remember Sunday Hobie races, @ Benicia ramp.
Finding a car sunk on the ramp pointed toward Port Costa.

Drove into the water heading for the lights on the other side.

I believe before GPS

I read on another web forum that the bridge in question is a private bridge, on a private, road, on private property - don't know if that would make a difference in the court case, though.
