Anyone waiting for this to be released?
Its looking like just the sort of bike I like. Limited adjustable suspension is a bit disappointing though.

Mostly cuz i know i need my money going other places at the moment if I'm being responsible. Looks sweet though

Yeah a stripped down 100 hp machine has to be a ton of fun. Not sure why its taking so long to get here.

I'm looking forward to it. I'd have to be responsible
and sell a couple things off. Looks like a great mix of hooligan and commuter. Decisions, decisions...

Suspension and brakes seem to be the biggest question marks though reviewers overseas are saying they’re great. Tires were of question to but obviously an easier fix.

Coming from an str - the torque specs earlier in the rev range and curb weight are very appealing.

I’ve almost always needed to adjust stock suspension however so could be a big drawback if that’s the case with this.

Wonder which mag here will give it an honest review vs countless puff pieces you read.

The 690 Duke was a bike I was really excited for right up until I actually test rode one. Hated the catchy throttle at very low speeds, it was work to make it not wheelie or stall. It was great at speed but any bike I use needs to be able to be a polite commute bike as well.

Would like to test this new one to see if the throttle is a bit less stupid low down.

So like triumph, honda, yamaha, suzuki ect.

P twins are boring

Some vtwins & p-twins are boring when the goal is a cheap A to B bike.
A p-twin being more compact and lighter than a vtwin has advantages. KTM didn't let vtwin tradition get in the way of building a bike that no one yet has called boring, according to all ride reviews I've seen.
They will sell a shitload of these bikes.

Its built to a pricepoint. Apparently the stock suspension is decent, and there'll be plenty of aftermarket / local tuners to fix it if not.

Have been toying with the idea of selling my 701 sumo for one... but the catch is i'm selling my 701 due to reliability concerns. So to sell a bike with an established foundation (that's still prone to issues) for a brand new platform from the same company.... well, I'm not sure if I'm willing to risk more headaches for a more powerful, less nimble, lower-spec'd bike....

u have a '16 year 701?

Yep, older (arguably) more reliable motor. Here's the dyno chart when we were 80% of the tune. We stopped b/c of a coolant leak that turned out to be a blown head gasket. Had the top end replaced under warranty and re-tuned. Added a few HP and a bit of torque to the top 1/3 but never got the final map

when i was researching it the only thing i came across was the '16 model year had some oil consumption issues. Think i got 1200 or so miles on my '18 model year now and beating the sh*t out of it. Haven't been on any sumo forums since i picked it up really, anything i need to be made aware of?

It's a known thing and is even called out in the manual at some piont - something about a bit of oil consumption being "normal" on very large singles. Mine will eat about 1qt per 2000 miles, typically. Which is "in range" according to multiple dealers.

i was more referring the the "arguably more reliable motor" part of your statement. Who's arguing that and in what way :laughing , as i haven't come across anything about the '17 model year and up having any issues.

Talked to Jeff, owner over at Mach1 where I got my WR. I was lamenting my 16 not having the updated motor and he strongly argued mine was the better motor. I don't remember the exact issues the newer Duke motors have, but said that the only "normal" issue my 701 motor was known for was the 'infamous' lifter issue.

This would be my dream bike if the motor and tranny were built by Yamaha. KTM styling and go-fast goodies with Yamaha reliability of the important bits? Yes please
