Refuel Electric Vehicle Event at Laguna Seca 7.1.18

Oh man only $99 at Laguna I guess they can't complain about noise pollution bwahaha. I might go and participate shame I will probably have to tow the bike there though. I haven't tracked the Empulse yet and I have a RV park adapter for my fast EVSE too.

Haha if me and you do the TT we can be the first to set a record for an Alta Redshift and a Victory Empulse TT. I checked the results and I didn't see any Altas and there were some Brammo Empulses but no Victory Empulses.

This Sunday! Dean, you going? I was gonna, but am tempted to go to the Junction. Prolly more fun. Hmmmmm...

Man I just thought up a crazy idea to get to Laguna Seca. I was looking at the map and Laguna Seca is roughly 60miles from San Jose. The Empulse has about a range of 60miles. I thought I could ride to Hollister Hills and camp the night with my tent in amd sleeping bag in my trunk. Then hopefully find a place to charge the bike at Hollister Hills a bit and ride to the refuel tt in tge morning and charge when I get there. That sounds more fun but I need to work tomorrow I'll just trailer the bike there early in the morning =/ maybe next year hah

He lied! Nice looking bike. Some of them, not so much.

It was a great event, it was nice to see all the bikes, err too many Zeros. There were like 40 bikes on the track so lots of traffic. The dude who had the Mission R was my neighbor man that is a sweet bike. First electric motorcycle with a single sided swing arm. Also Chris from Energica won the production class TT with the Ego. It would have been nice to see what the Mission R could do but he needed to jet after the 2nd session.

The Empulse did pretty good on the track. It totally riding it at race speeds you pretty much ride it like a normal motorcycle. I never appreciated those awesome brembo brakes and the suspension on the Empulse than I did that day. I rarely use the brakes on the street but on the track its awesome. The suspsension was very good. I noticed I can catch a lot of the Zero bikes on the corners but I didn't have enough power to pass them on the straight so I'd make a lot of passes around the turns.

I'll post of pics later I'll probably do a quick VLOG for the day since it was a 1 day dealie. What a bargain though $99 trackday with Speedventure and got to hang you and oogle lots of electric vehicles. We definitely didn't bust any sound limits!

It was kind of frustrating looking for a place to charge. Lessons learned take your Level 1 charger with you if you can't find Level 2 power just charge at Level 1 there were plenty of 120V outlets out there. I think you'd be able to get a significant amount of charge at Level 1 because the time between sessions was a while. I wound up burning through 25% SOC every track session. The dude on the Mission R said he burned through more than half! Of course he has almost triple the power of the Empulse though. They should totally record how many kilowatts of electricity we used for the event haha!

I did it last year and it was a blast. Last year it sounded like there was even more % of Zeros. Bring your adapters: I did not have a problem charging with my NEMA 14-50 adapter that I made just for the track day.

Yes, its a bargain, but the sessions are only 15 min right? I was wishing for 20 minutes and more sessions. Yes, the Zeros have gotten faster, but even the new ones with the new motors will limit power do to overheating after a couple of laps. You noticed that on the track right. I still had a blast even on my 2015, which has the older motor.

That's one of the Karmann Ghias I saw, orange with the number on the side. There was a burgundy one as well.

914's looks like it would be fun as an electric.

I wonder how the cars did. The new Tesla Model 3 has done well at the track, but there were issues with the brake pads roasting. The Chevy Bolt has been driven fast at the track too. I wonder what the fast cars were out there.

Cool stuff Butch. :thumbup

Richard is a cool guy who designed and built a bad ass bike. The Lightning is beauty in both looks and performance.

Merlin ... looking forward to more!
