Hey Everyone,

I somewhat follow baseball, mostly because I enjoy taking my Grandfather to games and this past 24 season I took him to a bunch of A's and Giant's games because we'd take BART/Muni and I got what I called the viejito privilege :laughing.

Even took him to quite a few Modesto Nuts games (we live in Turlock) after work. City of Modesto has been in talks of trying to keep the Nuts in Modesto with the MLB mandated Stadium Renovations which equated to about $38 Million which the city doesn't have unfortunately. City negotiated a one year lease extension while negotiations continued with Seattle but now they sold to Diamond Baseball Holdings and moving to So-Cal in a three-way shuffle.

Super bummed because there's been a Minor League team in Modesto for over 60 years, they even won their division for the last two years. This next season is going to be rough. :(

As someone who enjoys going to Santa Cruz Warriors "sea dubs" basketball games, I feel you Luis. Minor league sports done well are a total bargain and gem for the community. Sorry to hear your losing your team man.

If you look into Diamond Baseball Holdings, they are pretty much building a Oligopoly over Minor League Baseball, they also own the San Jose Giants among 41 other Minor League Teams. Like how is this allowed?

Diamond Baseball Holdings

Bummer. Hard to imagine $38 million toward fixing up a minor league ball park. I've been going to River Cats games since they first came to West Sacramento and its always a great experience. Minor league baseball offer a lot of entertainment for very reasonable ticket prices.

Yea, we're on the receiving end of that down here with the musical chairs.

What's happening here is that the City of Ontario is making a new stadium and sport complex. The "Cucamonga Quakes" are going to move to this new facility in 2026.

With that gap, the Route 66ers in San Bernardino are moving to Cucamonga.

Finally, the Modesto Nuts are moving to San Bernardino. As I understand it, the Nuts are the end of the line and Modesto is losing their team.

So, here's where it gets a little more weird.

When the Quakes move to Ontario, they will no longer be the Quakes. They'll be the Ontario Whatevers. They haven't chosen a name yet. The 66ers will become the Quakes and the Nuts will become the 66ers.

The actual Quake players will move to Ontario, but nothing else. Also, the Dodgers affiliation will move from Cucamonga to Ontario. The Angles are affiliated with the 66ers, so the new Quakes will become Angles affiliates. I don't know who the Nuts are affiliated with.

And, yes, Diamond Sports have bought the Quakes. They also own the 66ers.

When the A's move to Sacramento/Vegas, the whole organization is moving. With these minor leagues, nobody save the players are moving. I can't say I'm on top of how minor league management is done.

That said, the Quakes are my local team, and I'm an Angels fan, so "its all good" (the Quakes used to be affiliated with the Angels several years ago -- I don't know how all that works either).

But sorry Modesto is losing their team.

Local news articles stated that Seattle (prior to them selling to Diamond Baseball Holdings) offered to foot the $38 Million but still couldn't come to agreement so I'm curious what those contingencies were that Modesto may or may not wanted to agree with.

I can still watch the Ports play in Stockton but it's just a little farther out and they are the A's affiliate. Single game tickets haven't dropped for Sacramento yet either but having to drive all the way to Sacramento isn't as fun as taking BART to Baseball games, that nostalgia will be gone.

Good on ya for taking G-Pa out to the games. :Port

Sorry to hear the Team is moving. Hope more good times ahead.

When Jim Bouton wrote Ball Four, I could relate to much of his narrative.

Played a little ball in the summer when I was a lad, semi-pro. The semi- was the money part. Got a per diem, maybe a meal and occasionally a shared room when a family wasn't hosting. So, the professional part relative.

The all these venerable old parks are part of my youth. Yountville, Marysville and the Central Valley. Can pass by a ball field and a flood of memories return to my noggin. Financially, it was some of the worst of times, as part of life's journey, some of the most memorable.

Having watched the Grizzlies play musical chairs with their MLB affiliation before being forced from Triple A to Single A because apparently nobody in MLB wanted the affiliation...I feel you.

Yeah City of Fresno whomever did that to the Grizzlies is dirty. It's an amazing stadium, having gone there on several occasions.

I thought it was more the group that owned the Grizzlies, rather than the city.

I think it was one of the previous groups that did similar shenanigans with the Falcons, bought the team and then tried to dump them on the city. When the city wouldn't buy them, they folded the team and we got a junior league team (the Monsters) as a replacement :cautious:
