ABOUT

This is a newbie friendly ride intended for new and developing riders, this will be a slower paced ride.

This ride might be for you if you are
  • New to riding
  • Have been riding a while, but mostly do city riding
  • Want to get better at the wiggly roads
  • Want to find a group of people to ride with regularly
  • Are experienced and want to help out
  • Are bored of peninsula/south bay rides
Basic plan is to meet at Hercules (as thats relatively easy for everyone to get to), scoot up to Calistoga on some back roads and have lunch at Busters. From there, we will go up 29 to Middletown, and run back to the bay via Pope Valley and Berryessa. The route is 179 mi from Hercules back to Hercules - expect a full day - depending on pace I may adjust the route as we go so we get back at a reasonable time.

The route I'll be taking you is well known to anyone that rides up in Napa. Its a great starter route, and will give you an excellent introduction to more challenging roads and conditions. All of the roads here can be done at any skill level and with any bike.

DETAILS

Meet:
Starbucks, 842 Willow Ave, Hercules, CA 94547
Arrive: 10:15am
Briefing: 10:25am
Depart: 10:30am

REQUIREMENTS
  1. If your bike can't do more than 100mi on a tank, you will need an extra gas stop at Angwin.
  2. There is a gas station at the meet point, gas up when you arrive. Give yourself time.
  3. If you get there early, you can get coffee and shoot the shit. Coffee good.
  4. Please wear appropriate gear. If you show up in a t-shirt and jeans I'll mock you mercilessly.
  5. Weather is likely to be quite warm. We will stop frequently for hydration.

super sweet ride, July 6th shows Sunday for.. but regardless i may not be back on time from another trip by that time... do it again and i will join..

Better yet, lets go riding this Saturday...

Crap can a mod change the title to Sunday 6th please.

please indicate if you're intending to join this Sunday.

This will sound funny, but wife and I might be able to join if her hummingbirds can eat on their own by then...she is a bird rescuer and specializes in humming birds and has 5 at the moment. I will also reach out to our youngest son and see if he can join as he is a newer rider. I can sweep or whatever you need as this is our stomping ground. Will let you know as soon as we can.

If one was to perhaps attempt to join you at Busters, coming from the north........would you have a vague ETA in mind in terms of your arrival in Calistoga?

Don't use up all your C-Pace ride days without me! haha
If I can button up my electrical by Saturday, I should be able to make it. Saturday should give me plenty of time to do the electrical and put everything back on.

It gets vague the further we go, I expect to stop at the Power Market in Rockville around 10:20 or so and top up peoples tanks so maybe meet us there. Shouldn't take too long to get down there if you take 121.

Otherwise expect at least an hour or so to get to Buster's - it's hard to tell really it really depends on the pace of the group.

@taylormade21
No worries Mark. I will still have some C pace rides in me for the balance of the year :) (It is however difficult for me to do too many of them as you well know). If the wifey is not able to leave the birds, I am going to see how she feels if I go solo, even though I will be leaving for the CABDR (if my rim gets here) in a couple weeks. No word from the boy yet if he can play hooky for work.....matjam, is there a particular spot in Cordelia we can meet at and a timeframe?

I think I can make this, going to give it my best shot at getting all the chores out of the way Saturday.
I'm just down the road in El Cerrito.

Power market in Rockville - ~10:30 at the latest I’d get there a little earlier. 😉

if we leave Hercules at 10:30 am how can we be in Rocklin at 10:30?

lol yeah my brain … normally leave from Cordelia but wanted to make it easier for newbies from the city.

Arrive - Depart - Location
1000 - 1030 - Hercules Starbucks
1050 - 1100 - Rockville Power Market
1120 - 1130 - Turtle rock
1200 - 1300 - Busters BBQ
1340 - 1350 - Middletown Chevron
1400 - 1430 - Pope Valley
1500 - 1510 - “The Bridge”
1540 - 1550 - Turtle Roxk
1620 - fin - Rockville Power Market

Times are approximate… especially after we leave busters - depending on pace we may short circuit berryessa.
