Life is fucking rough. Whether it's nerds like me who talk to a therapist a few times a month to help with sorting out feelings and talking about healthy ways to cope, or folks who have more serious challenges, we're all going through something.

This is the mental health thread. There is no being a dick, no judging, just support and maybe sharing what has worked to help you cope.

One of my mechanisms when shit gets real is patting my chest and transporting myself to Ocean Beach, pedaling there on a sunny day.

I'm afraid people might start thinking I'm a little wierd. :loco

Periodically taking time off for yourself and doing something that you enjoy is excellent for your mental health. Fortunately I’ve never had any mental health problems. Unfortunately some of my family do have problems. Anxiety, hoarding, OCD, religious based delusions, etc.

CBT is very powerful tool. That coupled with well structured routine which has exercise component built in (the kind that gets your heart rate up for atleast 30-40 minutes) helps a lot. And as with everything else, practice makes it easier to cope/manage

Everyone can be found to be a bit weird in some way.

CBT sounds similar to what my wife used to teach in her classes for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts.

Exercise is one of my favorite ways to help reduce stress and cope. My therapist specializes in polyvagal therapy and getting the CNS calmed down. It's something I have been intuitively doing but she's added so many tools to my tool chest in our short time together.

This is something I completely agree with and unfortunately I do not get to do it.

Even if the time you take for yourself is short, it’s still highly valuable.

Take a walk or bicycle ride around your neighborhood. Meditate for 5 minutes. Sit and watch the day fade into night. Watch a TV program you enjoy. Reflect on something good that happened in your life. It doesn’t take much effort.

Just do it.

When I think of the pains I have suffered, I will always come back to thinking of the good things that have happened in my life. It is a powerful antidote for negative thoughts and anxiety.

Don't come in here and minimize people's problems or tell them what to do. That's not the point of this thread.

One could argue that deciding to post in a mental health thread that you have no mental heath issues is a sign of mental health issues. :2cents

What??

First off I did not minimize anyone’s problems. Secondly, I simply stated what works for me.
