I've seen more and more of these behaviors so I'm sure it's a country wide issue. And it's not just kids but also grown adults doing it. I saw a man riding a mini ATV on a busy street in traffic recently but he didn't seem to give a F and no gear, just tank top, shorts and flip flops. The two-wheel community is pretty small compared to the general community so when the hammer goes down, it could affect all of us directly or indirectly.

Baltimore police are renewing efforts to address illegal dirt bike activity by targeting gas stations that sell fuel to riders and providing tip lines for residents.

Dirt bikes are illegal in Baltimore, and on Saturday afternoon, police renewed their push to curb the problem with an online post. Police say service stations that sell gas to dirt bike riders can face fines of up to $1,000 and up to 90 days in jail.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The issue of ATV and dirt bike riders taking over major Philadelphia thoroughfares continues, especially as the weather gets nicer.

This weekend Tom Ayers and his husband John Murphy watched from their Center City apartment as ATV and dirt bike riders used Broad Street as a drag strip.

They weaved in and out of traffic, ignoring laws and even driving the wrong way into traffic.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Mall workers say they feared for their safety Wednesday as two teens rode a dirt bike through Coastal Grand Mall.

Myrtle Beach police say two teenagers rode a dirt bike through the mall just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, while the mall had shoppers and workers inside.

Video provided to WMBF News shows the teens riding the dirt bike through the walkways, slamming into a kiosk, then running away on foot before officers caught and detained them.

Florida may be on the verge of becoming one of the more assertive states in the country when it comes to regulating electric bicycles on shared paths and sidewalks. A bill sitting on Governor Ron DeSantis's desk could change the rules of the road, or rather, the sidewalk, for e-bike riders across the state as soon as next month. If signed, SB 382 would take effect July 1, giving riders and municipalities very little runway to adjust.

I was starting a response indicating that you need to visit more of the country and that it's just an issue in big cities, then I remembered that just yesterday some kid died on an e-bike when it collided with a motorcycle not two blocks from where my wife grew up.

I don't like additional laws, but I think there needs to be restrictions of some sort on these electric bikes. Right now I think the magic speed seems to be 27 mph where they move into a different class from regular bicycles. I would like to see it closer to 20 mph.

I have had to stop and talk to a few kids riding the things to school on the sidewalk in front of my house at a speed way too fast for a sidewalk. I just asked them to stay out on the road if they're going fast, but I think there needs to be more restrictions on the speed that those things can go.

E bike and the dirt bike gangs are two different problems with very different solutions.

The big City dirt bikers are clearly 100% illegal and a really big hazard.

The E bikes are mostly a nuisance problem.

yeah, twovery different issues. Laws exist for both.

Is number two because the e bikes are so inexpensive that folks buy them for the kids as toys? I think it is a parenting issue.

Neither the e-bike nuisance or totally illegal street take overs on quads and dirt bikes reflect negatively on the general law abiding moto scene.

Sport bikes "racing" on the known good public roads, (and crashing), H-D rev bombs/burn outs in town, lane splitting speed deltas that scare the shit out of cage drivers, and other self-important behavior is what reflects poorly on all of us.

I think that is true to a degree. There are likely many people who lump all riders together and this stuff makes some National or big impact on local news.

Agree but the application is very limited as far as the # of citizens that are witnessing these acts.

This would assume that the bridge closing stunters are similarly classified as the dirt bike peeps.
They do however look more like the general moto population. Mixed bag to me.
 
Targeting gas stations? Is this a defunded or downsized way to avoid confrontation? Ticket the riders and impound the vehicles.
 
The ebikes I’ve seen in my neighborhood are a hell of a lot faster than 27 mph. And I’m sure that virtually none of the riders know about counter steering or how to brake hard.

I was a latchkey kid, and can attest that a lot of the trouble I got into was a lack of oversight! But I eventually got my ass kicked once my mother found out.

Every time I have been pulled over on a bike the cop started by telling me he appreciated me wearing full gear. And the on perfromance award I received, the officer was very cool about it, and warned me of some wild turkeys that collided with a patrol car windshield in the area I was riding. In my experience, the police can tell the difference betwen a (mostly) lawful rider and the riders that are in the headlines lately.
