Another Credit Card problem- Scribd!!!

I have a Corporate Card that I use to buy materials for my job and I have had fraudulent charges on it from time to time. It's a hassle to cancel it and get a new card, but normally the problem originates with a foreign company or hacker, but lately I'm having issues with a shitty- local company called Scribd. https://www.scribd.com/home

They offer documents of all sorts, which sounds great, at first. They even offer you a 30 day free trial after you give them your CC, but if you try to cancel they will ignore you forever and just keep charging your card $11.99/month. They are SF based. I'm at the point where I am going to contact the SF DA and se if I can get some help.

Any advice on how to deal with these guys?
 
Punishment for these sorts of corporate shenanigans should be swift and financially painful.
That's the sort of government overreach nanny state I want to live in.
 
Sadly, it's the new business model for many tech businesses. When I tried to cancel Netflix they literally refused to do it, and eventually just told me "go dispute it with your credit card company." So they've basically outsourced their cancellation process to the banks. What a bunch of shitheads.

Of course we should give some credit to the original "innovators" of this business model, the telcos. They are even more clever in how they discount to get you to directly connect your bank account, and then they just make up charges that hit your account every month and are essentially undisputable, via bank process, unless you initiate a fraud claim against them (which then locks down your entire checking account.)

Welcome to late stage capitalism. I'm not a particular fan of the CCP but I do admire, a bit, the way they are willing to feed their own to the wolves. This country needs a corporate leader purge.

Change your account number. Can't bill a number thats dead right?

Also some CC's now offer 1 time use or 1 vendor use numbers which come in handy in THIS exact situation.

If I report this as fraud, I will then need to get a new Credit Card, which means I must change my CC # with about 30 other vendors- that is a PITA. I just did that about 3 months ago. That fraud originated in Hong Kong, which is not a surprise. What surprises me is that this is company out of San Francisco that is doing this shady stuff.
 
NEVER give your card number to anyone you don’t absolutely need to. NEVER.

I have been told that is not a big deal at all 🤷‍♂️
 
Cashier at the local supermarket was saying the other day about her husband being scammed out of $2k from a parking app. Well a fake parking app, someone put a stick on QR code over the legit code and he scanned it. He had to have made a few additional clicks I would assume to give someone that sort of account access. I didn’t get the full breakdown other than learned of another scam to be aware of.
