Show Off Your House Plants

So that one came from Trader Joes!! $12 and it's been a champ. It LOVES bright indirect light. Point it at a north facing window and give it an well drain aroid potting mix and it will be soo happy. I should take a few more pics of how it went absolutely crazy this past year. I bought it with one stem and after one winter of pretty slow growth, I repotted it and gave it just a little nitrogen and it absolutely took off!! There are at least 4 fat stems in it now and it's showing no signs of slowing down. I'm probably going to have to break it up on the next repot. If/when that happens and you want to come get a baby, Let me know :)

Ooooh! Thank you! Trader Joe's always has great deals on plants. My bathroom faces northwest. We have a skylight in there, and it is bright and humid. I have the calathea and a few begonias and Hoyas in there, along with a purple tradescantia, string of pearls cuttings, African violet, and an orchid. They all seem to like it in there. Eric won't turn my backyard into a greenhouse so I turned my bathroom into one! Maybe I'll get some photos tonight of my new thing I made in there.

Take pics please! That sounds like an ideal spot for an alocasia frydek.

My next "big" project will be to get my Staghorn Fern mounted to a slice of a downed tree I found on the side of the road. I will be over the moon if i can get it to take and it comes out looking anything close to this when it grows up.

I've been harvesting mini Japanese maples for years, trying to turn them into bonsai trees. But mine are really just small trees in small pots, not actual bonsai. BUT, I was just given a how to book so let's see what I can come up with.
 
I'd love to learn the art of bonsai. I think I might have the patience for it now that I'm older. I love dwarf conifers, and have been wanting to make a miniature conifer forest. Seems like the smaller they are the more expensive they get, though! Pond and Garden in Cotati is a fun place to wander around if you like Bonsai and conifers.
 
I've got about 5-6 Japanese maples in little 1/2 qt plastic pots. They are almost 1-1/2 years old and getting a bit leggy and need to be re-potted. Free if you'd like a couple or more, depending on demand. ( Maybe make a little donation to the BARF if ya take some.) I'll take some pics and post later.

These 2 Japanese maples are ~12 years old. Not really a true bonsai shape, more of a free form bonsai-esk. :laughing Just trimmed back a little every winter.

Not sure how close we'll get here with real trees, but if so, it's gonna take some solar tubes or grow lights...so might just go with fake trees and real plants in the beds w/ grow lights for those areas. Gonna be an interesting project...
 
Need to propogate my monstara, got lazy withit and it started growing sideways, it may even be root bound in its pot since i think theres like 4 seperate nodes growing in it

Here ya go. Nothing big and fancy like all y'all's plants, but it's a small space. Old gas pipe for cheap at Urban Ore, painted and added vintage green glass knobs on the ends. Hung it on hooks, kinda crooked but that's where the joists were, and I needed it away from the floating shelves Eric built decades ago. I wanted it for my lights as much as for the plants. There's a green crystal from a vintage chandelier in there that is magical in the sun, but that time of year has passed. Maybe I'll move it. I need to remove the fish on the wall to the left of the window, too. Anyway, here it is...

You 100% need a frydek. I love the insulator light too. I have an uncle in Ohio who collects those.

Thanks. I have quite a few of them, too. I've collected some, and I inherited a ton of insulators and old glass bottles from Eric's dad. Eric and I collected the one on the shelf from a pole in the Mojave desert. It just has a little LED candle sitting under it. The plant hanger on the right with the begonia on it is an agate serving tray that I bought at World Market, turned upside down and attached chain to it. It's beautiful from below when the light is going through it.
